Well, the giants going up on 57th St in Manhattan beg to differ. I think the 1,350' SHoP tower is 60' wide at its base. The 1,400 Vinoly is not much wider.

Anyway, this development could be really cool. The connection to Arts Center MARTA station will be key, since that superblock site already has traffic issues without 1500 new residential units. It could be cool if they took the opportunity to cut through another street and shrink the size of that block, but I doubt it will happen.

The site plan confirms this. The lower Tower A is what you see back there. Seems to mimic the top of Promenade II tower actually.

i have seen those before, but from what i understand, they're using some pretty hefty materials and new techniques to make a tower that tall sturdy. for example, it wouldn't have been possible to build a tower with those dimensions 15 years ago.

Arquitectonica has designed an 80 story monster for One Brickell CityCentre in Miami... Now THIS would be something at 98 14th Street....

716 Feet / 218.3 Meters

I did a little research into the 98 14th Street project and discovered the reason for using height above sea-level. They claim the height of the ground floor "varies," due to terrain, to use the architect's own word. Do you measure from the middle of the building (I think One World Trade did this?), or the short side, or the tall side? It will be up to the CTBUH to decide how the height is measured. What they (architect) do tell us about the tallest tower is the height from the bottom of the second floor to the highest point. This is 694 feet (211.6 meters). The crown (included in the 694/211.6 height) is 70 feet (21.3 meters) and each floor, with an exception for the first three floors (two of these three are 22 & 30 feet or 6.7 & 9.1 meters), are 10 feet (3.05 meters). The ground floor appears to be around the same height as the second floor, which we know is 22 feet (6.7 meters). I think we can guess the tallest building is around 716 feet (218.3 meters) tall? That sounds correct for the use and floor count. It's a new 6th tallest. This is still an estimate, since the architect won't give a height for the ground floor, however it should be very close. The first and second floors appear to be the same height on the building's tallest side.

Midtown MARTA stations enhancement projects (SLIDESHOW)

Midtown Alliance on Tuesday released renderings of proposed enhancements to MARTA’s Midtown stations.
Six months went into planning and a team led by Smith Dalia Architects came up with concepts for North Avenue, Midtown and Arts Center stations. SLIDESHOW on the right.
Midtown Alliance wants the stations to become destinations for MARTA riders, area residents and area workers. Enhancements include pop-up cafés, bicycle service facilities, transit towers and public artwork.

Who knows the Marta Station, itself in midtown is getting a face lift.So actually its great 98 14 st for but, I totally agree about they should have made it further down south midtown to add more density to the skyline. But we all should be happy because, they chosen ATLANTA to build this project not anywhere else, these developers didnt have to bring these towers here if you look at it, so let's be thankful.
And about the Midtown Station (Marta) they will have some mix-used development around it, And I love the creativity what they've done. (Re-used train carts into stores and etc.) Also I talk to one of the Marta's supervisors (Marion), they said it's about to be a lot of changes to Marta , and he gave me a hint (Trains and Green Space). And I also found out something there about to do with the Marta trains and its about to be amazing,But I must give credit to Marta, every since they've that new president they have been thinking outside the box every since.

I can imagine Atlanta Skyline in 2020-2025, Especially Midtown.

These look horrible. I'd much rather see this money spent elsewhere with Marta.

Yes that is definitely Tower A.

I guess eye of the beholder? I think they look nice. Also, it's the Midtown Alliance's money, not MARTA.

I know I'm gonna get hell for this but YUCK

That looks extremely cheap which means it'll look even worse once built. I'm glad we are getting it don't get me wrong but I'm just so sick of these type of designs. It looks so blah and half ass. They could have come up with something a little nicer looking than that... yuck.

But, you cant say the ground level is nice, but I agree with you in certain ways, but the tower is wack if you really do look close, also are those bricks their using?

But Is 98 14 st is going to be glass, i'm concerned about what their using. And I have this feeling its another project coming up like this (98 14 st).

it looks very southern california or florida. i don't care for the aesthetic design, but as long as we don't get parking decks or blank areas fronting streets, i'm okay with it. i'm concerned about the way it fronts 8th and crescent in particular. that's why i was looking for other angles.

It's a good thing we have plenty of nice big lots to waste.

I kinda like it.
