So, when will the CCH bill go to vote? This week? Next?....

While the Denver CCH is somewhat of a big wall, for some reason it doesn't have the same massive nasty wall look as San Antonio's or PHX, it could simply be the glass. I wouldn't mind something along the lines of Denver's.

From Makid's comments it's sounding like the sit they are focusing on isn't going to be RWP, but something that may already be cleared or mostly cleared, with the smaller footprint that he mentioned. That makes it sound like a couple of potential places:
- S. Temple (still hard for me to fathom a direct connection across S. Temple).
- The parking lot SE of ESA.
- Dead Goat (another direct connection that seems extremely vast)

I do have a question for you Makid. Do you know what type of convention space they are going to be including in the CCH, is it going to be only meeting rooms and small dividable space, large Expo hall space, or a combination of the two?

You also said the City and County have the votes. Does that take into account the three new City Council member that just took office?

How would ESA work? What is the dead goat? Is that the actual name of the place?

There is a surface lot on the SE corner of 100 S and 300 W, that is what I was referring to in regards to ESA.

Dead Goat used to be a bar, directly east across the street from the Salt Palace, behind the former, now burned down DV8 building. North of the little grass area. However now that I think about it more, that is a very small site and I'm not sure they could build much meeting space there.

If it's going on any of those sits that FM just listed, with a single tower, being somewhere between 1,000-1,200 room and focus is taller not wider then we are getting a new tallest out of this hands down. We could be looking at a upper 400 to 500 footer here.

What about the large plaza/entrance area at the southeast corner of the Salt Palace? If they could connect to the main halls underground to the plaza area, that would make more contiguous space, and the county already owns the land.

From the google maps link below, have the CCH go until the north/south skylights on the west, and to the existing 3 story gray wall to the north, and out to the street on the east and south sides. https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=40.765656,-111.894532&spn=0.001459,0.002411&t=h&z=19

Is the grass area youve mentioned the Kilowatt Commons Area?

Yes. However there is an underground substation there so that wouldn't be an option for usable space.

Okay, yeah. That wouldn't work. I really don't see how the lot at the 100 W and 300 S intersection would work either. Demolition would be much easier, but everything else would be waaay harder.

What about the parking lot just west of the Radisson and the Fidelity building? Is that too small?

Big Three by 2016?

A lot of talk and finally some action towards some much anticipated future towers for downtown Salt Lake City that will transform SLC's skyline to more complete skyline and with each of these towers a lot of them seem to be eying 2016 as the deadline.

The big three

Salt Palace Convention Center Mega Hotel

This rending isn't final and all rumors are leading to a much taller, tower then this one that is shown here. Here's what we know....

1. Focus is more towards a taller vs wider single tower
2. 1,000-1,200 rooms with convention spaces on the bottom
3. 2016 could be a target year since that's how long the Outdoors retailers contract for Salt Lake goes til. Will they renew is the big driving factor of what's getting the hotel on the fast track
4. If bill passes the hotel could break ground as early as 4Q 2014 this year
5. The site is still unknown, but rumors has it as a smaller site that is already cleared, building-less.
6. If rumors are true with single tower, smaller site, over 1,000 rooms we could be looking at a new tallest of over 420FT at least 30-stories.

111 South Main

Already in the works, 111 South Main will be Salt Lake's 3rd tallest. ( unless CCH is taller, then 4th tallest. ) at 24-stories 387FT. Target date is set for spring of 2016. This tower, no matter the view will make a big impact to the skyline.

145 State

What was first just a building grow into a tower. First rendering showed a 9-story building to then 14-stories to then 18-stories to now 20-stories at 295 FT. ( around 20FT shorter then 222 South Main. ) This tower could break ground as early as later this year once all the approvals are approve and the parking garage is finish.

Three very good size towers for Salt Lake by 2016? It could very likely happen.

Could it be built on the small parking garage/office space directly east of the Salt Palace on 2nd south? It's not very large, but there really don't seem to be many good options besides RWP

Not sure what's going on, but while heading to work tonight on 215 I notice a grant ball frames somewhere east of downtown. Somthing is burning somewhere near 400 south ish east of state street is my best guess.

They had topped out just a few days ago.

I'm watching the blaze now. Man, it's huge.
