I stayed there during a conference last November--it was a great hotel. And easy on the eyes. I'd love to get something along those lines for SLC.

I wonder if it'll be possible to sneak through what looks like a small alley between the UPAC tower and the O'Shucks building. (Probably not, but I can hope)

I am so disappointed that they dropped the accordion effect that was shown in earlier renderings. 111 is 100% boring now. I'm much more excited for the Boyer development at 145 S. State. That is a very attractive building!

I didn't care for the accordion, but the lobby level looked way better in earlier renders. I'm most bummed about how ugly that lobby level looks now.

Any news on the old Pantages Theater Redevelopment/Restoration on Main? I walk by i t quite often and I always stop to look at the photos showing it's former glory. I would love to see it redeveloped during the same time the UPAC is going up.

Then if a movie house or something like it went up around the Zions Bank building...that area of town would be a true entertainment mecca.

I must have missed the Olive 8 photo, I really like that building and something similar in it's size both width and height, would look great on the NW corner of 200 S and 200 W. Olive 8 is 39 stories, 17 Hyatt and the top 22 are condos. Their website says it has 346 guest rooms, and one floor of meeting space. If we figure 346 rooms on 16 floors and at the same footprint as Olive 8 the new SPCCH would need to be 46 floors, plus the large floors with convention space. WOW, that would be huge. I would guess they'd do something a little different. Maybe a corner tower at 30-35 floors and then a North wing and a West wing around 25 stories each.

Opinions?

I am the one that posted that photo of Olive 8. It's in Seattle. I agree that it would look awesome in SLC. I think a corner tower would help balance out the skyline and the overall look with Olive 8. That is IF (big if) we were to get something similar to Olive 8.

Personally Olive 8 is my favorite idea of what I would like to see for a CCH in SLC.

Thanks Future Mayor for the details on Olive 8...I didn't have time to originally post them.

It's rough, but you sort of get the point I was trying to make. 37 stories on the tower and 17 for the wings.

Wouldn't that look absolutely incredible on that RWP location?

As excited as we are about the possibilities of the new CCH, you just know it's going to be a PHX. You know it.

I don't think any architect in 2014 would be stupid enough to make another one of those..... although, an architect could lazily make the CCH a giant wall.

Oh God help us, or Flying Spaghetti Monster help us, (whichever you prefer) if we get a PHX.
This is how I feel about getting a PHX.

I can't imagine a Phoenix style CCH going up at this point in Salt Lake. Even Boyer has taken the right cue's lately. I think that Salt Lake City has proven itself to have matured beyond allowing that kind of high-rise — to dominate the skyline. Someone might propose something similar, but there are many who's opinion matters that would shoot it down.

I like your take Future Mayor. I think a large engaging base with a slender tower would be an excellent fit. It would accomplish the need to infill a functional expansive space for the street and the convention centers needs. At the same time, we'd get an attractive new sleek tower added to the skyline.

No matter which location the CCH is built, something like Phoenix's hotel will not be built here.

I do know that design is one aspect that is being looked at. They want the CCH to be something that is important and nice to look at, not just a fat wall.

Design is 2nd right after location. I have heard that tall is they way they would rather go than wide. Also, expect a single tower CCH. If the need for larger meeting spaces and possible exhibit hall space is needed, a double tower may not provide the ideal layout of the space.

With everything I have heard, I would expect this to be under some level of construction by Q4 of this year if the bill passes and is signed by the end of the legislative session. It could possibly move up if it is passed sooner.

I also would expect a location to be officially named shortly after it passes as I know that there is a need/desire to get the CCH going as quickly this year as possible.

1,000-1,200 rooms, taller not wider, single tower. If these hints are true then we are looking at a tower that will be at least 400FT and very well could be our new tallest.
