The only issue is that a huge gap would be created.

There is going to be a gap at some point. The Grand America is a Block away from the rest of the highrises. It will look odd at first, but then we will grow use to it. The original Triad America proposed two towers close to the Union Station Building. I like our downtown with the buildings all clustered together but eventually buildings are going to need to be built away from the others. Freak. I wanted them to build the residential tower in south salt lake.

It looks like DOMO is moving into the top floors of the Walker Center, and they've got this 2 minute video that shows some of the amenities. I've always wondered what it would look like from that rooftop, and here it is:

As someone trying to go into cityscape cinemotography, I can say that these shots of downtown are truly amazing! Please, everyone watch!!

It is good to hear that another tech company is expanding operations in downtown. That is encouraging as most have expanded in office parks not urban settings.

Hopefully there will be more to come.

Yeah, I was surprised to see it, but pleasantly so. I remember several years back Walker Center underwent a major remodel to bring it up to Class A (?) space, and wondering if the investment would pay off. Looks like it may have.

And yes, as much as I love Adobe's building in Lehi, imagine if they had put that (and their two already announced expansions) into downtown Salt Lake City, tower-style.

Welcome to the Forum SLCSkyline. We look forward to your input on the discussions. You asked about the site west of the Plaza as a potential site for the CCH, that location has been brought up on the forum as a potential location. Here is why I don't think it would work very well, and again this is just my opinion and the issues could possibly be overcome.

Here are some things that we don't know yet regarding what type of convention space they will be building as part of the hotel. Do they need more Expo Space (the massive halls that connect to each other), does that Expo space need to connect to the existing expo space, or do they need more meeting rooms and some smaller halls that expand but aren't connected to the main expo halls which might simply need a hallway of sorts that connects the two areas.

The S. Temple location while directly across from the Salt Palace it is directly across from one of the main entrances. Connecting the new convention space with the existing space might be difficult to make work with it having to connect at an entrance. If more connected expo halls is what is needed, I don't see that they would be able to accomplish that via that S. Temple entrance, and there is no way the city would allow a skybridge spanning S. Temple that would need to be the same size as the space above the 200 W "tunnel" If they simply need a connection via a hallway that would be a much smaller skybridge, but I still don't know if the city would allow a skybridge that would interrupt the view corridor along S. Temple of the very cool view of the UP Depot to the West.

Here are my arguments for the RWP site. Placing the hotel on the RWP site would allow them to accommodate either of the two scenarios with connected expo space or a more simply connection similar to a hallway. If the expo space is needed they could lower 200 W and connect the expo space to the existing space, if the hallway is the way they need to go, they could run it above the expo floor connecting to the W. Temple lobby areas, and they could either run it somewhere in the middle of the hall or at the very south end of the hall. As for the loading docks that area, as you pointed out, is sort of the back side of the Salt Palace. Placing the hotel on the RWP location would in essence cover the back door and create another front. Moving all the back door type function into the middle of the overall Salt Palace and Hotel space.

Again these are just my opinions and why I feel the RWP site would be the most ideal.

On my TRAX ride into work this morning, I noticed that the main street side of one of the buildings being demolished for the UPAC has started demolition with the top of half of the facade gone, and an excavator is parked in front of that building. A covered walkway has also been installed on 100 south for the demolition of the building on the corner.

From this angle, 145 wouldn't make really any impact. Just barely poking above the US bank building...

But 111 and 145 would make a good mark from this angle..

Now imagine the impact that a 30-40 story CCH on the RWP site would add to that first image, it would be front and center.

Is that the CCH on the RWP plaza location in the second picture, just to the left of the Wells Fargo Building? Or is it just the elevator shaft for City Center?

Speaking of City Centre. They need to redo that massive roof of the third floor and make is a green roof. Obviously the building wasn't designed to accommodate a massive green roof, but they should at least put in a few green features.

Those are good thoughts Future Mayor, thanks for the response and input. I can see where you are coming from and can absolutely see the benefits of the RWP location.

As a newcomer, may I just comment on how much I appreciate the general tone of the posters on this forum? The quality of the discussion and the manner in which people treat each other is refreshing in comparison to some other forums out there. Maybe I have just spent to much time on sports message boards....

That's the elevator shaft on City Center. From east and west views, the CCH would look really good on the RWP site.

I still think the next project that needs to happen is building something where that Zions Bank building and parking lot is on 100 S. and Main.

Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, or an AMC or Cinemark would be perfect. That intersection and area is going to be cool once the UPAC and 111 are done. You already have CCC right across the street, so that area is going to be bumpin'!

These are all my boys (former colleagues) moving in here... Im sure I could get some pictures at some point.
