SEATTLE: Game Day Weekend

I spent one night and two glorious days in Seattle January 19 and 20, 2013. It was my second visit to Seattle, first one as a photographer and as someone old enough to legally check into a hotel. It was the perfect trip.

Fast forward one year. Same day, same time, same weather. Only this time, the city is alive. There is an energy in the air, and that energy came from the NFC Championship between the 49ers and the Seahawks. Flags hung from the roofs of office buildings. Buses and signs and those giant flashing billboards on the side of the road that car dealerships have all flashed variations of the phrase GO HAWKS. The streets were packed with both Seahawks and Niners fans bustling to and from different bars and parties before the big game. The streets were bursting with red and gold and green and blue. Of course, we all know the outcome of that day now. But, for two brief days, the whole coast was on edge as two great cities went to war.

Me? I didn't have tickets. I booked the trip before the Niners won the divisional. I wanted to go because I missed an opportunity for an amazing shot last year during sunset. I also wanted to go because it was a three day weekend. Sure, I fell behind in studio work. It happens. Doesn't matter much to me; I had a great weekend actually experiencing architecture instead of just mindlessly drawing it on pieces of paper. While this trip didn't feel as fun or exciting as the 2013 trip, it was special in its own way. My camera might've been nearing the end of its life, but if this trip was to be its last, my camera will have ended by taking perhaps a few of the best photos I've ever captured. Enough of my words; you did not click this title to see mere words! To the photos!

Great set! Glad you made it to the Chapel of St. Ignatius - that's one of my favorite buildings in Seattle.

Thanks for your pics! I´ve enjoyed the variety of urban scenes.

I see your three days weekend was very intense. Very good description about the streets of Seattle in the Game Day Weekend. Great job and pictures!

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain.

To everyone: thank you. This trip almost didn't happen, but fortunately, it did and I had a great time. Flickr also thought I had a great time because one of the photos from this set was chosen for the Explore pool, a first for me.

I got there right as the fog burned off at noon on Monday. Steven Holl's a genius, and it's easy to see why my professors at PSU constantly tell us to visit it sometime when we're not in studio.

Yes, yes I did. Have car, will travel. It's a bit of a double edged sword the way I travel, though. I focus so much on photography, I never slow down to just explore, find a coffeeshop for breakfast or something. Every second I'm out of the hotel is with my camera. Either way, I do agree with you that it's a bit crazy how much I got done in a three day weekend.

I stay at the Crowne Plaza when I'm up there. Unobstructed views, decent price, good location. I might try another place when I'm up there next time, though.

Awesome set of pictures! If I ever move out of Austin, it would probably be to Seattle. Love visiting there.

I must echo the above comments, it's impressive that you were able to pull this in such short order! Every time I see Seattle, I fall in love with it a little more. Thanks!

Loved this thread! Great photography.

I adore Seattle...it's a city that just makes me want to cuddle up next to a fireplace, read a good book, and drink a good cup of coffee on a misty day to the backdrop of its gorgeous skyline.

I visited Seattle last summer for the first time and absolutely fell in love with the place. It reminded me of San Francisco before the City became so obscenely expensive and over-developed.
