I know it's a project that several posters on here aren't happy about, but is any noticeable work being done on the North Shore at the future site of Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill?

And, if so, can someone living in or around the city possibly take and post a few pictures when you get the chance?

Last I looked, the building project on North Shore Drive looked like it was topped off and that they were starting to work on the interior.

It's not much to look at, just a couple story tall steel structure, and soon to be bro douche headquarters of pittsburgh but I'll see if I can get a couple pics today of it.

I do wish that they could come up with something other than sports bars for that that strip. A convenience store or a coffee shop would be handy. People might want to grab a latte and then go sit and watch the river.

The good news is there is no guaranteeing any of the current tenants will be permanent. And in particular if they ever do the residential units they are supposed to be doing, it could help shift the tenant mix in a more balanced direction.

More disturbing to me is doing only a three-story complex on such a big chunk of the remaining land, because that is a more long-lasting decision.

They could have easily built a 10-15 story building there, would have been much better use of the land. But this is still better than a parking lot.

Looking at BrianTH's second picture, it looks like the main entrance to the building will be at the corner of North Shore Drive and Chuck Noll Way, which, according to Google Maps, puts the project very close to Stage AE? Just across the street?

That might also explain why I didn't really notice the construction when I looked over the Allegheny from Downtown when I was in Pittsburgh a few months ago. It appears that the Del Monte building would have been blocking my view.

Sounds like restoring that high rise with the wholeys sign is starting very soon and that the top two locations for the fish are either the Heinz history center or McKees rocks. And bill peduto seems like a pretty down to earth cool guy.

It is actually two buildings, but you are right about the location (across the street from both Stage AE and the Del Monte Building).

North Shore Place I & North Shore Place II

In March 2013, the Authority approved the sale of a 1.6 acre parcel (a portion of an existing surface lot) to North Shore Developers, L.P. The parcel is located in the southern half of the surface lot along North Shore Drive adjacent to Stage AE and across the street from the Del Monte Buildings. This development will consist of two three-story buildings with 5 retail spaces on the first floor, and office spaces on the upper two floors. A pedestrian passageway will provide for a continuous walkway from the river through Del Monte Building's view corridor, and through the new buildings. Further restaurants tenants will include Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill, North Park Lounge and Burgatory.

Incidentally, Burgatory, at least, has the potential to be a nice addition for families and such visiting the area.

Unfortunately the Dude-Bro's will manage to rage-out whether there's any buildings there or not. They will either be douching it up in these ugly new bars or it will be bros icing bros in the parking lot out of the back of their parent's BMW X5.

Methodology question: is Pittsburgh really the most affordable city in the US?

If the median home in Dallas is twice as large as the median home in Pittsburgh, but costs 10 percent more, then Dallas is more affordable than Pittsburgh, not less.

bottom line is that "the affordable markets are generally characterized by liberal land use regulation"—by which the authors mean "liberal" as in "not too strict"

Agreed. Granted it is a much better use than a parking lot, but it could definitely use more height. Someone mentioned 10-15 stories here.

I do wish the City Planning Commission/Zoning Hearing Board would consider changing the zoning ordinance to allow for a minimum height requirement. I'd put the minimum height at 100 feet, or roughly 6 to 7 stories...
