Even since my days at the U (a long time ago), I thought the Carl's Jr. sight (it was a Hardy's in my college days), would be a great site for a tallest - say 50 floors.

Just in case any of you might not already know and would be interested, tonight is Salt Lake's big night to shine on American Idol. The Promos looked pretty good, "Best talent we've seen yet!" Anyway, looks like they'll really be showcasing Salt Lake City in a very positive light.

Me too. A great site and location, just hosting a Carl's Jr and ginormous parking lot. Ridiculous. And during college I worked in the Salt Lake Tribune Building, parking over in the Regent Street parking garage, when that Eat a Burger was actually open -- that's another great site for a small restaurant or building; not necessarily a fast food drive thru, but having it fenced up and shuttered is a waste of prime space.

With the height of 151/145 continuously increasing it makes me wonder if Boyer has a large tenant already lined up. Perhaps a new to the area financial company or regional headquarters? Also, I remember the original rendering having Goldman Sachs on the top, I wonder if that is a clue. Although I would be surprised if GS was to leave Hamilton Partners, and if they really needed more room they would expand into a couple of the empty floors in 222 or move to 111 when it's finished.

Also, a slight correction, somebody mentioned that 222 was 21 stories, it is actually 22 stories.

I say Leave the Carl Jr. until a Signature tower is proposed in its place. It is a perfect location and would hate to see it go to a building less than 25 stories tall...correction. I would still like it if a building was placed there...but would like a tall building instead

I'm with you, EPdesign. There isn't a better location in the whole city for Salt Lake's first 500 footer. And it seems like there's growth and renewal happening all around it now, so maybe we're seeing the perfect storm brewing for just that.

The Carl's Jr. site is owned by the Dee family. They not only own a chain of not very impressive restaurants but they own a lot of prime developable pieces of property downtown and in Sugar House. Just hearing office chatter, I think that you will see them redevelop their property in Sugar House in the near future but I haven't heard much about downtown.

I'd love to see a nice somewhat slender modern design residential building built on the former Eat-a-Burger site. Leave the parking ramp and build something 10-15 floors, as long as it's taller than the Regent St Garage, with one or two retail spaces on the ground level.

As much as I'm sure we will all miss the Sizzler on 400 South, I saw a preliminary plan for a future development on the site. It would be a mixed use building with retail on the ground floor and 4 or 5 levels of residential. It looked similar to the Seasons at Library Square proposal but with retail. They didn't discuss timing but the project looked great at a quick glance.

I think I speak for everybody when I say that I always look forward of seeing posts by either UTPlanner and Viperlord, knowing that there is some juicy info on development.

Maybe I'm the only one who speaks for this, but as much as I like seeing all the new housing developments going on or near 400 South I would like to see some development this is a bit taller then just 4-6 stories. Something around 8-12 stories I would welcome up and down 400 South.

I would agree that taller would be better but as has been said many times before, it is a huge price jump to go from putting wood stick framed residential 4-6 stories to having to use steel & concrete frame design. I assume it is the same reason the hotels in Murray and by ESA are staying at the 5-6 story height.

Quick question that I should probably already know the answer to:

The NW corner of 300 E and 300 S used to be a large antiques/collectibles shop. They've moved out now, and the building has been mostly razed. What's going to be built there? It's a great location for whatever's going in--I'm really loving how Broadway has changed in the last ten years.

Agreed. It's such a large piece of land, and such a prime location...I'd want to see a signature tower/new tallest there. Don't knock it down and put up a 5 story sumpin-sumpin.

I, too, wish there was something great on the Carl's site and Eat-a-Burger, but I don't think the Burger site will change anytime soon. A friend of a friend knows the owner---she's in Cali---and the RDA has approached her THREE times about buying it, but she's being stupid and holding out for an absurd amount, which just isn't going to happen (she's asking 8X what the RDA has been able to offer!).
