There hasn't really been an announcement for the Austin Energy site, so I'm not sure what they're doing there. There were those renderings of the proposed "Sim City" towers, but we haven't heard anything about those in several years.

I'm fairly positive there's something that's going to happen, and I'd be willing to bet they're doing a similar thing to the GWTP as in, there may be a demolition of the site before anything is set in stone. Frankly I just want the frumpy brick building gone

I went into Google Streetview to get a better look at the Energy Building and found myself on the bridge that carries West Avenue over Shoal Creek. Surveying the buildings that form a "four corners" at that spot (the Energy Building being one of them), I kept hearing that Sesame Street jingle:

"one of these things just doesn't belong here, one of these things just isn't the same..."

tear the f*cker down and build something worthy of contemporary Austin.

Also, not to be one of those posters pining for information when there isn't any...but what happened with Green Water? I always kind of liked that project more so than Seaholm because of the density it would add and extension of the street grid, but it seems to be in hibernation mode. Or dead mode. The market is ripe, just git er done. And maybe give the 2011 iteration another look while you're at it.

They announced phase 1 last year. Remember the brownish tiered building with black glass that half the people hated?

That was Green Water. This is completely separate. The one you're talking about is here. This building is here.

Fantastic!

I live in the 360 on 17--we've probably crossed paths.

I remember it well! But I feel like that was back in the summer...and since, there's been no info, no fluff news pieces, no press releases, no dirt turning...not to mention the claim that Block 1 was supposed to begin "this year" -meaning 2013. so I'm kind of like "what happened?" Meanwhile Seaholm is in full swing. Ugh the anticipation

I hear ya.

But the wait will be worth it. Just imagine what it'll be like with Bowie, Seaholm, GWTP and ECC are all underway or finishing up.

I went snooping around and found this.

http://www.trammellcrow.com/EN/o/austin/Pages/home.aspx

Look at the first picture that pops up.

It doesn't reveal much but it does show a redesign that we have not seen before.

I'm excited about what the other project ahealy mentioned will be.

Here's the pic taken from that site.

Good job on the find!

I like the lighter color on the Block 1 tower.

I found this just now via Google image search... http://www.bdcnetwork.com/9-mega-redevelopments-poised-transform-urban-landscape

Quote:
3. GreenWater (Block 1), Austin, Texas
Developer: Trammell Crow Company (joint venture with The Hanover Company)

The scope: The overall GreenWater development encompasses five city blocks. Potential uses include offices, retail, residential, hospitality, assisted living, and public green space. Over the years, about 1.75 million sf of facilities has been discussed for the site.

The story: Austin has been preparing to redevelop the former Thomas C. Green Water Treatment Plant—one of two large mixed-use projects to be created on outdated city infrastructure sites—for a decade. The city entered into a master development agreement with TCC in 2012. Solomon Cordwell Buenz is designing Block 1, the first of four phases now envisioned. The proposed 38-story mixed-use building would include 436 apartments atop street-level stores, plus office space.

What’s next: Groundbreaking is projected for Q2, with completion in 2015. The build-out schedule for the entire parcel remains tentative. Development at the nearby decommissioned Seaholm Power Plant is also under way, with a 30-story luxury condo tower expected to be ready by the first quarter of 2015. (Seaholm Power LLC and CIM Group are working with Urbanspace Real Estate on that project.)

They fixed the colors! Yay!

Wonder if the input of a certain internet forum had anything to do with that...
