Terminal 3 and Terminal 1 can be connected, by the expansion of Terminal 1 to the northwest. The expansion of Terminal 1 following the U shape into the empty space between the two massive terminals. Terminal 1 can also be expanded to the east as you can see another huge empty slot on the eastern flank of the building.

They are also connected by the "People Mover"

Westjet has extensive codeshares with American and Delta. AF, BA, and a host of others codeshare on Westjet to provide domestic connection onto their international flights.

What is more likely is for Air Canada and Star Alliance partners to stay in terminal 1 and WestJet and their partners to stay in terminal 3. All the charter airlines get fit into where every there is space.

Oh jesus! I had no idea Pearson was expanding. I was just there like a couple weeks ago! So piers H and G will be brand new? I'm not sure why that graphic makes it look like all of terminal 1 is brand new though.

Not expanding anytime soon. But it has expansion capacity if required.

Okay. That graphic, and its dates, are completely misleading then.

As you can see in the graphic I showed, YYC obviously has a massive amount of space for future expansion as well.

The graphic dates from when terminal 1 was under development. The next expansion will be post 2015; maybe post 2020 too.

Ok, I get it. I thought the pier/finger was the whole airport. So yes, it's just like Pearson has lots of room to expand.

Looks like they have tons more room to expand than Pearson. They could eventually have 2 full length runways on either side of the terminal and enlarge the present terminal to about 4 times its current size.

And Pearson's Terminal 3 will eventually be demolished so that Terminal 1 can be extended all the way down to where it currently exists. We'll end up with one mega terminal.

No chance of that happening. The urban build up is a lot closer than that image shows...

Wow! Caltrane where did you dig up this pic?

That's from 2 Master Plans ago - probably late 1990s/early 2000s.

Pier G/H are supposed to be consolidated into a massive new hammerhead type pier (bigger than F) for international flights. At least those are the recent murmors at Pearson.

I'm hoping for mind-blowing retail concessions in that pier.

When is GTAA going to expand T1? The transborder arrivals and departures area is a joke and the sooner it can be replaced, the better.

When demand warrants it. This will be close to a billion dollar investment when all is said and done.

The building expansions are totally easy, but to build more runways might be a challenge. There is room between the newest runway and Metis Trail NE... however, any such runway in the future would require another airport tunnel. We already have the longest runway in the country, so maybe another runway won't be needed?

Calgary's new terminal is much more connected to the existing terminal than that overhead rendering shows. The new hotel is built in that space between the terminals in that rendering. Essentially, one will not notice that they are walking into a different terminal.

There is room to extend the new easternmost wing further east and then south. Lots and lots of room to extend both ends of the terminal northbound too.

Runways is a different matter, there really isn't any more room for further runways, or even twinning the current runways.

Doesn't matter how long the runway is, you can only have one aircraft on it at a time.

I would not worry about a third runway. Look at Heathrow, it operates with just two runways.

Having at least two should help in poor winter conditions when one runways needs to close for snow clearing as the other remains open.
