There were two books of that type published for the Centennial in 1974. You can find them on eBay sometimes, or else check bookfinder.com ... the Free Press one is a pretty basic book to have if you want to know about the history of Winnipeg. It has a lot of information in it. I had those books at the time but don't know where they've got to.

Siloam Mission asks city for millions to help it expand
Shelter wants to build housing in $30 million expansion plan

Quote:
Winnipeg's downtown shelter asked the city for $4 million Friday to allow it to move ahead with some ambitious expansion plans.

Siloam CEO Floyd Perras told city officials altogether the project will cost more than $30 million.

He said the plans include two new structures: one a four-storey building for administrative services and a nine-storey complex of apartment-like units.

Arts centre has big plans for Village
Multi-use complex premièred

Quote:
A Winnipeg theatre is about to lift the curtain on a $24-million plan to redevelop one of Winnipeg's trendiest corners and add dozens of units of affordable housing to Osborne Village.

The Gas Station Arts Centre hopes to tear down its existing theatre and build an eight-storey complex that would include two or three new commercial units fronting on Osborne Street, a new 300-seat theatre and six storeys of apartments, some earmarked for artists.

Excellent development. Too bad they can't take out the strip mall next door while they're at it.

I Agree with this suggestion, It is time, or shall I say past due? Here's hoping the proposal comes to fruition and your suggestion as well in the not to distant future.

That actually looks very cool. Hopefully it goes through, as it would make a great addition to the neighbourhood.

agreed and yeah, the strip mall next door is hopefully the next to go... would be nice to see the 3 underdeveloped corners at Stradbrook/River redeveloped as well.

^ Nice project. The fact that it will fill in a parking lot makes it even better.

It's interesting to see old warehouses on or just west of Princess slowly but steadily being converted to residential uses. The narrow gap between Chinatown and Centennial is gradually being filled in with students and young urbanites.

Capacity is already less than 15k, they won't admit it though

Wouldn't want to be in that one-bedroom where the kitchen has no doors though.

Perfect scale for its location. I really like the level of densification happening in the area. 6 to 8 storeys seems perfect. Someone needs to propose a parkade structure and two tower development for the Safeway parking lot now.

I really love the little single family bungalow neighborhood tucked in behind the Evergreen towers on Roslyn Crescent, but I can't help but think what that area would be like filled with 20 to 40 storey condo or apartment towers.
