Wow, another hotel closure, this time the Quality Inn on Parc. Not an old hotel either! Good to hear that it's being converted into student residence though.

Never thought there'd be a massive hotel closure in downtown during the biggest real estate boom since the 70's.

Not too crazy about the lost jobs either. Hotel work is generally good money. We're talking about 15-25$/hour jobs.

I was a bit surprised also since there doesn't seem to be a major slow down or crash in the hotel business in Montreal. I read that many of these hotels were at a point where you either renovate them massively or got rid of them. Since there seems to be a lot of businesses looking for real estate for student residences, I guess it was easy to sell... I just hope we can get a big new hotel announcement it the short future now that there is probably more solid demand for rooms.

Oh wow, that's where I stayed in summer 2010! Seemed nice enough although definitely very dated looking. Had a very 70s vibe to it.

quality hotel, not quality inn. makes sense - increasingly, hotels outside ville-marie are seen as unviable.

If the Gare Viger project ever materializes, it's going to be a great improvement for the area.

I was hoping the inner courtyard would be made into a beautiful garden or square, but as long as the building is preserved then whatever. I was getting worried it would just sit unused for another 20 years until it deteriorated so badly that it needed to be demolished.

I count ay least 16 floors on the main tower portion. This is good, being immediately west of the Solano towers (including the upcoming 19 floor phase) it will help lengthen the skyline eastward. If Radio-Can can build towers up to 15-20 floors high, we should finally have a nice mid-rise continuation from the CHUM all the way to the bridge.

Just took a look in the London Compilation Thread.

I am really jealous of the huge volume of high quality projects they are getting. I would love to see just a few similar projects here. Wishful thinking, I know..

i hope this is reworked to vastly increase the commercial space, like faubourg quebec is just dead, a bedroom community, totally suburban development.

Square Viger is probably the ugliest thing in Metropolitan Montreal, with the Laval Clocktower coming in at #2.

Nice updates, all of them. I especially like le Solano. The absence of proximity commerce notwithstanding, I like what they've done and what they're doing.

I like how Castelnau made essentially no effort to make their second phase look as nice as the first (the historic building)

Looks like the Point Zero people (the Benisti) are involved with 440 René-Lévesque next to the proposed Point Zero Hotel building. Karl Fischer is the architect. Looks like there will be retail at ground level, and the building might be rebranded as the "Benisti"? Not sure if that means its days as an office building are numbered.

It still looks like the current Point Zero Hotel design exists to the east.

Turns out this project is going up on Rue Caisse/Boulevard LaSalle in Verdun. Not sure what it is exactly, although it says: "Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix" on the front. Looks like they are trying to keep the green patch on the corner.
