Any one have any new info reg: the Proposed Hilton Hampton kitty corner to York Ave?
6 storey,82,000 sq. ft. 125 units. All I have is preliminary designs are under way. Thx

I think you may have uncovered a new one, cyro. I don't recall hearing anything about this before. Now that it's appeared here, I'm sure Murray McNeill will have all the details in Monday's Freep

So it's set to go up on York Avenue... but I wonder where, exactly? I presume that this isn't the new iteration of the Convention Centre hotel that was originally pitched to go along with the expansion, but if it is then what a massive downgrade.

I think this may be something related to the ealier proposed Edmonton/St Marys developement adjacent to the Convention Centre but close to York Ave by Lakeview.

The proposal was first made public back in November 2004. The Lakeview Group announced the construction of a $12m, six storey, 115 room all-suite hotel connected to the downtown Skywalk system. Construction was to begin in Spring 2005.

Earlier this month one of the city's most announced projects was announced yet again: the Lakeview Hotel on St. Mary Avenue at Edmonton Street.

First proposed in 2004, the plan has undergone a number of changes. The most recent incarnation calls for two hotels on the site: one facing Edmonton Street and another facing St. Mary Avenue.

It would be great to have that site filled and the last link of the southern loop of the Skywalk system completed. Unfortunately, the connection is to be part of the St. Mary hotel which will be built as a second phase.

The bolded sounds very close to what was listed today. I do agree,$ 12 million and 6 floors is a little underwhelming.

I doubt this is Lakeview. They have never publicly proposed anything for York Avenue - the rumours have always been attached to their lot at Edmonton St and St. Mary Ave - and even then Lakeview confirmed last year that plans fell through (aaaagain) for that site.

Their reports are so inaccurate. "York Ave (Convention Centre) off Trans Canada"? Isn't the Trans Canada Hwy in downtown considered Broadway? That would be two solid blocks away from the proposed Convention Centre Hotel at the site of the former Carlton Inn on CARLTON ST .

........as well, I would hope the hotel associated with the Convention Centre would have better branding than a Hampton Inn and be more urban looking than a six storey airport hotel.

It's the joc,they listed pump house at an estimated 10 million dollars and a condominium project no less as posted in the Pump House thread.

They listed this proposal as off the Perimeter Highway? York Ave is probably another typo error.
This project falls into the specified parameters they initially proposed when Lakeview said they would construct a 6 floor hotel and forgoe their larger one as a second phase project in the future. ?

Looks like the apartment blocks at the end of Whellams Lane are back on again. There is a request coming before the EK-Trans community committee to change the end date to start construction to Dec 2015 as permission had expired in 2012.

Reasons given for not starting sooner were the court challenge by the neighbors and the time it took after the appeal to exchange lands for the new public back lane and dike.

The lawyer for Devonshire Properties says in the request to the city, they are now in the process of obtaining tenders for completion of the project

I seen that in the City clerks thing. So I'm thinking there's potential for spring construction if all goes through. Extension to December 2015 is just a result of putting the request through in December 2013.

Shouldn't be a problem getting a new construction date permit, TV's family sold their home in that area.

Seriously any new rental space in NE Winnipeg is sorely needed, a tower or two shouldn't seriously impact Whellams Lane or the area around it.

I saw that last night driving home from the theater. There had been that odd metal thing in the ground there for a while too.
