Here is my photo set of the new
South Fraser Perimeter Road (Highway 17) in Lower Mainland. This new highway is was mainly built to serve the ever increasing truck traffic between Port of Vancouver in Delta and Trans-Canada Highway 1 in Surrey. Driving eastbound on last Sunday.
New SFPR and HW17A intersection.
Approaching SFPR and HW99 intersection.
SFPR/HW91 Connector intersection.
Alex Fraser Bridge looks rather impressive from below.
New Westminster and Surrey Harbour ahead.
By far the nicest part of SFPR.
Tannery Road overpass.
Old Yale Road intersection.
At-grade railcrossing on a highway before Pattullo Bridge.
Pattullo Bridge onramp.
Bridgeview Drive intersection.
Approaching Port Mann Bridge.
Old Port Mann Bridge being dismantled.
My two cents after driving the road:
- Boring scenery most of the way.
- Speed limit could be 100km/h west of HW99 Connector and east of Bridgeview Drive. Otherwise current 80km/h is proper.
- Around Pattullo Bridge SFPR is like a street with constant traffic lights at-grade intersections. Not good.
- Curves, curves, curves. Did I mention curves?
