I spoke with someone at the sales centre not too long ago and they said that sales were going fairly well and that the estimated possession date was late 2016. I think that would probably translate into a construction start date of around July 2015 but that's just a guess on my part. I'm really looking forward to Verve as it will also add a lot of office space to the East Village which I find is critical to keeping the area vibrant during the day time.

July 2014? Thought they'd maybe want to start sooner as they still have a bunch of future towers to go through after Verve. These guys are really taking their time.

What happened to that rumoured upcoming announcement of a 40 storey tower in East-Village?

Oh wow I didn't even realize the Verve was going to have office space. Great to hear sales are going well.

The only tower that is anywhere near that, is Fuse which is just past grade. First is far behind and still pouring foundation. Other than towers National Music Centre has just past grade as well. Verve has yet to put in pilings.

Quoting this here. Very interesting. Article mentions two more 2014 launches. One for the first rental tower and another one will be the first tower by a local developer. Hope it's Batistella!

Batistella has two towers: Chocolate and Colours. So it's not them.

Excellent video although I'd like to see a more pedestrian-friendly linkage between the library and The Riff than what's show in the video

Cool to get a visual of what's going on though! I think there will be more to that RioCan site too

We just need more projects to break ground this year

Maybe it's just me, but the St. Patrick's bridge should really have 3 humps instead of 2. A middle one would balance it out better IMO

Will wait until complete before commenting on the bridge. Might turn out pretty well. The Island looks really promising. I like the big hill especially - thinks it called the lookout.

The island is one of the nicest looking parts from the video. I really look forward to seeing it. Agreed the lookout looks killer!

Am I the only one that thinks it looks really shadowy in the EV in this video? I guess if it's being honest that's good, but it seems darker than most of DT. Is it because of a lack of long E-W avenues?

EDIT: Also I notice that the 'bubble' for lack of a better term between roadways by the drop in centre is still there. I really hope that gets built, whatever it turns out to be. The EV is looking really boxy and needs some curves.

Wasn't there talk of a 40-50 story building in the EV too?

Was that supposed to be on top of the Rio Can site or somewhere else?

I'm not sure. I seem to recall some rumour about the Rio Can site also. I also recall the old massing model in the original study had one much taller office building on the western edge.

IIRC there was rumblings about a building that size in the EV back in the summary/fall.. But nothing too concrete

However, Bok posted this in the Construction thread at Christmas:

The Riocan east village proposal looks pretty epic, but I'm afraid that will have to wait for another day. I have very high hopes that this will go ahead as Superstore is already set in place for the retail floor. This one I cannot wait, it brings the same kind of gitters that Telus Sky and the Library did. The dp for this will probably be spring or summer 2014 though.

By the sounds it this RioCan site will have more to it and could be that 40-50 storey rumour we heard .. And pretty epic at that too if it's getting Telus Sky/library praise

"The developments Calgarians can expect on East Village this year include the divestment of a parcel of land for the community's first new rental apartment complex and the announcement of the first multi-family project by a local developer."

I interpret this to mean a local developer that usually sticks to SFH development is going to build their first multi-family project.

So, not Batistella. Not Avi (Avi Urban). Not Cardel (Cranston). Not Excel. Not Truman (Savoy).

Shane?(<--wouldn't that be hilarious!). Morrison? Cedarglen? Trico? Maybe Trico?
