2) The north-south angle is fine, even if it's a copy of 30 PP and has that traditional "Stern for the wealthy" look repeated time and time again. However, it is WAY too skinny from the east-west angle!! I don't like a tower this tall being so lopsided in dimensions.

I have to agree that it is a near replica of 30 PP, which is somewhat lame.

I however like this tower more. It's slenderness makes it look really good.

I think 45 E. 60th will be the most finely detailed of Stern's 3 towers that will rise. You can see a little below...






I think the crown here is fine as it is, though I wish 30 Park included a spire.

^i would hope he would build something that compliments this building,more than likely that will not be the case but i feel like this building should have its own spot in the skyline like one57 but it seems like all things change

I have no problem with people not liking the building, when it comes to architecture, to each its own, but I'm not sure you can criticize an architect for sticking with a certain design pattern. If you look at all the major "starchitects" these days, wether it's Ghery, Calatrava, SHOP... They all have a distinctive style which they use over and over but with different variations; their genius is actually to make those same features look unique in different buildings, and I think Stern achieved that handily with this tower. Again you don't have to like it, but you can't criticize an architect for not deviating from his style enough.

That's the only downside, but even One57 won't really have its own spot.
The Nordstrom tower will make this seem a lot smaller than it really is.

After looking over this tower some more, I have to say it looks really good and fits in well within CP.

My only gripe with this tower is the lack of creativity. Stern definitely has his own style, but his style is repetitive. All of his towers have near identical designs that only seem to vary dimensionally.

This may not be a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but if he starts getting more projects around the city it will definitely become tiresome.

I'd certainly take this over another glass box though.

he's very old, so it might not be that he's designing for much longer, but yeah, his post modern-style isn't really to my liking either, even if i prefer it to the darth vader-esque building that barnett had smith and gill put together for 225 w57th.

It's a good looking tower, Probably the best art deco tower NYC has ever had in the 21st Century,but I hate how it's going to block half of everybody's view of the best floor to ceiling glass tower
(217 west 57) NYC and the U.S. is going to have in the future, from Central Park. If only they could move the tower more to the left, but they already started digging.

Too much glass. The city needs to be more than just a magnifying glass. This is great variety. Same with 432 park ave. The city is a architects wet dream for a reason. Its a walking, living collection of architecture living side by side for the past 120 plus years.

"Stone" buildings, yes. Skyscrapers? Not so much. Which is why it is such a rare treat for a tower of this height. More than 90% of the skyscrapers rising or planned to rise in the city are glass towers, so your complaint is baseless.

This tower and the Nordstrom tower are offset from each other. They are close to each other, but this will hardly block the view from Central Park.

To put this in perspective, the last time a stone clad building was built over 900 feet was 1932. The other stone clad buildings over 900 feet? ESB, Chrysler, AIG, and Bank of Manhattan Trust.
