Telus Sky - approved, along with a massive allocation of public and arts spaces in the lower floors of the building, an unexpected and welcomed addition to the proposal. Also, the curvey glass awning over the south sidewalk has been removed from the proposal, also a welcomed change!






The building to be demolished will be completely vacated by the end of this month. All but 4 of the spaces are empty

Morguard is a management company from property to asset management. They may sell the tower portion or partner but, they aren't one to build condos.

Speculation aside the project hasn't even received approvals yet.

Imo...this is the nicest tower going up in Canada at this point in time.

Great tower, but they should use another pic, the Bow looks like a cube.

It won't even be the 2nd tallest building in Calgary. Brookfield Place will be 11 meters taller than The Bow, while Telus Sky will be 15 meters shorter than The Bow. Pretty cool though, that by 2018 our 3 tallest will all be over 220 meters

It's not going up yet, but I agree. The public amenities really set it apart. However, the galleria and plaza of Brookfield Place will be some of the most amazing modern public spaces in the country, so that's kinda cool too. I would like to see more detailed renders of the Telus Sky lobby and the other public amenities before making any rash statements though. The rental apartment portion of Telus Sky (the curvey part) is my favorite architecturally in the country.

According to this UT article (which includes the latest renderings), YC Condos is listed by agents as being 63 floors because it will skip floors 13, 14, 24, 34, 44 and 54, because those numbers frighten simpletons with money. It will indeed be 57 storeys.

It's because 4 in Chinese is homophonous with the word "death". Skipping floors with 4s is pretty common in East Asia. We might think it's silly, but some people and cultures take that stuff very seriously.

If I'm on floor 69, I'm not going to make any assumptions about my sex life. And skyscrapers in Canada that omit the 13th floor are embarrassing.

On a related note, but excursive to this thread, one thing that irritates me intensely is that North York General Hospital, a public institution, has a beplaqued "Sabbath Elevator". Who on earth thought that was proper and approved it just because someone donated money? Accommodation has its limits!
