I know (from reading the Lansdowne Ottawa thread) that not everybody agrees with this redevelopment, but it seems to me it's going to be a great addition to the city. I've been to Frank Clair a few times and enjoyed those visits, but always felt the rest of the park could be more than it was. Looks like you're getting that.

he actually scored for tottenham yesterday

Facilities and game played aren't comparable. Your statement makes little sense.

Actually Elly makes all the sense in the world, soccer is an afterthought in this country.

Is it normal for Olympics to run a deficit?

Par for the course I'd say (regardless of the clever accounting and incorrect Calgary references)

Oh man, how hilarious would that be to see Rob Ford waving the Olympic flag all cracked out.

The way these things go, there is no chance the Summer Olympics will stay under the budgetary high water mark. If Toronto gets it, it's virtually certain the cost will be north of $17B.

The question is, is it really worth it for a 2-week event?

The west stands are stuck at 2 tiers because they built right out to the lot line. They'll need 3 tiers on each side to get to 40,000 so that needs to be the starting point for any re-design.

If one keeps the 2 tiers on the west that are currently there, one can only add a 3rd tier if it's sunken. Dig up the field and take down both the east and south stands completely. Only leave the 2 west stands minus the small bits that start to curve around the soccer pitch. Then build a sunken bowl that wraps completely around.

If that requires re-routing Princes' Boulevard a little further south it's well worth the effort. You could get a stadium of 26,000-28,000 this way. To get to roughly 40,000 one could at a later date build the 2nd and 3rd tier on the east side to match what exists on the west side. You'd lose the parking lot on the east side, but if this stadium was ever to be enlarged we all knew that back in 2005.

Very difficult, but one could engineer a system in the sunken bowl that moves the end zones in and out on a track. There would be obvious 'problems' at the corners but surely something workable can be found.
Why would they want 40,000 seats? They'll be able to bring in temporary seating for events like the Grey Cup.

BMO is a terrible location for the Argos. The whole reason SkyDome was built was because of the terrible bursts of weather off the lake that doomed Argo and Blue Jay games. At least the Argos have a built in excuse for poor attendance the next time they ask the rest of the CFL BOG for an advance on TV money.

Never.

But get ready for former Olympians to tell all of us Canadians that we "need this event to put Toronto and Canada on the map."

It might be.

Its the only way Toronto will get any infrastructure money for the Gardiner replacement and Subway expansion.

The DRL isn't getting built (within 35 years) unless the Olympics come here.

This would be the only time i'd say its smart to go dancing with the corrupt IOC. I believe only the LA games and Atlanta summer games broke even and/or made money, every other summer games has lost cash.

Its a crappy rendering. The logos look ugly placed like that in the style. Hopefully whomever has the final say in how they will look notices that and changes it. Simple paint on the roof is much better, minus the white bloc background. To Illuminate the TD branding would be another option.
