I'm dying to hear something concrete about Regina's new stadium... and even just a peep about what's going to be happening with regards to Calgary's sports/entertainment district!

It will be worth the wait. They said the selection would be done within the first 3 months of 2014 so it can be any day now. My money is on the PCL/HKS Architects bid simply because of their incredible resume designing stadiums.

I took a look at the HKS website to see what kind of work they've done... there is some really impressive stuff there and I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with for Regina.

I really liked this Mexican 28,000 seat soccer stadium, Estadio TSM Corona:

http://www.hksinc.com/places/estadio-tsm-corona/

That stadium is what Tim Hortons Field should have been instead of the glorified Meccano set they ultimately settled on.

Would you be shocked if I told you that HKS's design for Tim Horton's Field was something similar to that - albeit with seats ony behind one endzone

Did HKS draw something up for Hamilton?

Turns out that Cannon Design is responsible for THF. As it turns out, they did Lansdowne Park/TD Place, as well as the BC Place renos... THF is mysteriously buried on their website.

I've been thinking the exact same thing - especially with Calgary's plans (if they have any). It sure has been super quiet. Ken King must be like Stalin, otherwise you'd think something would leak out by now! Personally hoping for West Village arena and retractable stadium but highly doubt that will happen. Hope I'm wrong...

As mentioned, the name Lansdowne will be retained and it will be called TD Place at Lansdowne Park. Locals will most likely keep calling it 'Lansdowne'.

It also was done for $100M US and is built in the middle of nowhere, with I'm sure much cheaper labour than we could get in Canada

The logo for TD place is kind of cool, but as I've said before, though I recognize the logic behind naming rights sales, I don't like the idea.

Looking forward to seeing the final designs on Regina's stadium as well. I hope they can keep the original concepts in mind, it is a very attractive design.

As far as a sports/entertainment district for Calgary' west end, I think that's very speculative, given the flood costs that have to be absorbed. I think it's far more likely we'll see renos of the Saddledome and McMahon than new construction. I don't see any government or private group throwing $500m plus aroung anytime soon.

Looked at a few photos - that is an interesting design.

For the CFL, I'm not sure I'd like the idea of having a giant grandstand on one side of the field with just a lower deck on the other (though it creates an obvious future expansion possibility)

Does anyone know if the temp stands at Guelph Stadium are still in place? I just checked the construction cam for Tim Hortons Stadium and was shocked to see how much work is left, it doesn't even look 50% complete! how's it supposed to be ready in 6 months?

At this point, less than two months ago, the stadium was 46% complete "progressing on time and on budget."

Tim Hortons Field Hamilton November 12/2013

Tim Hortons Field Hamilton January 8/2014

What this tells me, a layman with absolutely no expertise, is that the work remaining must be easier to complete than what has already been completed.

I really hope they can pull it off, but based on that picture I would think you'd need nothing less than a miracle to see THF completed by Labour Day. I mean an army of hundreds of friendly leprechauns would have to materialize and start wielding wrenches to help the construction crews speed things along.

Unless that happens, I'd say the Ti-Cats will be playing at least half of, if not the entire season in Guelph.

How permanent can the temporay stands at Guelph be made? Maybe they could be left in place. I would love to see Laval-like attendance figures there for the Gryphons if possible.

The key words in that statement!

Arena designs will be out early this year.

Are you certain? I'd prefer to see the Stamps get a new or massively reno'd home before the Flames, but I suppose that's just because I attend their games and not the Flames, and I'd like to see the Saddledome kept around in some capacity. But how can the city justify spending $100s of millions on a new sports palace after the flood damage?

I don't know what you saw or not today, but I saw them lifting more concrete slabs with the big red crane. It's the first time in almost a week. Lots of stuff going on, we just can't see it from the web cams.

Back in full swing now, workers were leaving the site at 8 p.m. today. With the holidays over, I am assuming they will be back to 6 days/week except for Family Day...

I would of preferred TD Place @ Lansdowne Park. It's not a mouthful to say and it keeps the heritage of the area.

I doubt the city would be chipping in, the Flames would have to foot the bill themselves to avoid the fiasco that Edmonton went through. And yes, McMahon is a complete dump but I can't see Flames building a new stadium that only gets used 9 days out of the year (unless it has a roof) so an arena is more likely. There were rumblings it was going to be announced last year but then of course the flood happened, plus they wanted to see how the Edmonton situation was going to play out.

Personally i am confused about two things:

a) where do our tax dollars go? Obviously it doesn't go to snow removal. I'd be happy to pay a bit more if it meant world class facilities that I'd actually use

b) how the hell does Regina end up with a new stadium? Am I in some kind of alternate universe? How embarrassing will that be for Stamps fans once that gets built! Actually, with Ottawa and Hamilton getting new parks, we will be the worst in the league in that department, hands down!
