There's no retail because it's all parking space.

The developers didn't want to build an underground parking spot so they made a deal with the City to cut the number of parking space, have a bike locker and suppose to have a car share program.

The more negativity I hear about this, the more I think it's okay. It's maybe not "great," but I think it's a pretty good addition to a fairly important corner.

I also agree with the notion that it may serve as one of the catalysts of a process that eventually turns Dundurn into a more commercial-intensive street. I like to think that, one day, much of the 1 kilometer (almost exactly) of Dundurn between Main and Dundurn will be given over to commercial. There are few opportunities any time soon for large redevelopment, but there are a number of houses that could make for good commercial use. This has been done already, with the Cake & Loaf Bakery just north of Aberdeen, and the insurance broker at Herkimer, among others.

I'm not going to say that Dundurn will be "the next Locke" (I hear that a lot), but I think it will become more important commercially, due in part to this development.

I just like the fact that it's built right out to the street. No parking lot or wasted lawn.

Yeah I know there's parking instead of retail. I should've clarified that I hate how there is no ground-floor retail and underground parking.

CO scare sends condo residents outside on cold morning
(Hamilton Spectator, Jan 7 2014)

Residents of an Aberdeen Avenue condo were scrambled out of bed early Tuesday and sent out into the cold after a carbon monoxide scare.

Hamilton fire department spokesperson Claudio Mostacci said firefighters were first called to the building at the corner of Aberdeen and Dundurn Street South around 6:30 a.m. for a strong presence of carbon monoxide on the fifth floor.

Residents of the condo were kept warm on a city bus while fire crews searched for the cause of the deadly gas.
