YYZ has a number of slot curfew exemption flights they can allocate to the airlines. Primary purpose of the slot curfew exemption is to handle cargo aircraft, but the exemptions do not discriminate between passenger and cargo aircraft. For example, legacy AC from the 80s (when the curfew program was started) had 4-8 cargo flights operated by DC-8-73. Today there are no AC cargo only flights. Beyond the cargo scheduled services, TPIA Auth can allocate curfew exemptions on an as required basis. Oh and the curfew exemptions operate on Calendar year basis so a new allotment began on Jan 1.

The YYZ curfew slots and one time exemptions are based on # of aircraft. TC determines the Night Flight Exemption Program requirements and GTAA does the administration.

Looks good, I notice they are not recognizing the Laughlin flights?

They are operating pretty much year round with Republic Embraer 190's on a weekly basis.

Lethbridge, Abbotsford, Kelowna, Dallas, Houston, Fort Mac... about half the map is wrong.

90% on the way down, 100% on the way back. They have to make sure they balance the loads as on the way down they stop in Panama City, drop off out going passengers, and then pick up returning passengers to Edmonton while still having to stop in Liberia to drop off and pick up passengers. Recommend the trip to anyone. I know is 35c all week is amazing. Staying downtown is crazy their downtown is all residential mainly and built in the past 5-10 years.

WestJet apologizes to passengers after ‘horrendously’ long wait for baggage at Edmonton International Airport

EDMONTON - When the WestJet flight from Maui finally arrived in Edmonton at around 1 a.m. Monday after a delayed departure, passengers expected to soon be home tucked in bed.

Instead, they found themselves stuck on the parked plane for about an hour and a half, apparently because of a lack of ground-crew.

Not really YEG's fault, but bad press nevertheless. I've noticed "baggage wait creep" over the past few years.

I'm headed to Maui soon on WS and will be coming back on the same flight. I don't need a 2.5h wait for bags in the wee hours.

ATS's and WS relationship at YEG has been ''touch and go'' for many years. Why would a person want to work for $10-$11 hour at YEG for the company when they can make $17+ hourly or more 2 more minutes away in Nisku?

So very true .... Likely this event foretells what is really happening on an ongoing basis .... WJ not providing the same service levels they do at YYC. Is there tracking of times like this - arrival on Tarmac to gate??? WJ should be raked over the coals for this.

^In 2013, I flew over 40 trips to and from YEG. Hands down, the longest wait time for luggage (when I have checked in my luggage) is here at YEG regardless of the airline I flew.

I agree it is often a longer wait here than most, that is an issue, but the specific example was a perfect storm of reasons why it took so long... not an excuse, but a reason.

This is a source of tremendous internal tension at WestJet, the performance of their contract ground handlers across the country is generally atrocious. But false economies govern just about everything over there these days as they try to keep rising costs and headcount in check.
