Calgary makes me think of a body builder with a huge upper body and skinny legs. The core is much bigger than it should be for a city of its size. Truly unbelievable. This is a compliment by the way lol.

Calgary forgets leg day most of the time, but with developments like Westbrook, London, The Groves, University City, and many others popping up all over the city in increasing numbers, it looks like leg day is going to become pretty common in the not-so-distant future

I really like the shot because it shows almost all of the urban inner city and how expansive it is. The only communities missing are Inglewood, Ramsey, and Mission. I would have liked if it showed the suburban northwest skyline as well though. It would likely be quite impressive from that angle.

Also of note, that dirt patch in the foreground is the East Village, which will be an entirely new built up area beginning with the completion of the first 3 towers and the National Music Centre in a year and a half, with the neighbourhood mostly complete by 2020.

Should be able to see big changes in that view every year for the next decade or so with Bridgeland, East Village, and East Beltline(Victoria park) in the foreground set for huge growth, while some of the new projects in the background neighborhoods - Eau-Claire, CBD, and Beltline will be visible from the plane ride too.

Yeah that's the University. The other large institutional buildings in the background are Foothills Hospital and the Children's Hospital.

That university area is and will be seeing some large scale intensification - West Campus Development (8 million sq ft), Stadium Mall (800,000 sq ft mixed use), Brentwood Station (TOD high rise and midrise mixed use), and the Main University Campus and Health Campus ($1 billion cancer centre).

Belleville has a cluster of slabs and Pickering has a cluster of four or five towers with a dozen midrises in its city centre. Surface parking dominates unlike this aerial.

Could be York University looking south or west with fewer slabs in the background

Yeah, of course right off the 401.

Its not a tall cluster, but similar in scope to the picture you posted.

I'm chagrined to say I didn't recognize the picture at first. I spent a lot of time at Foothills Hospital, the Motel Village and Marketmall when my mother was in her last stanges of Cancer 5 years ago. What is happening with the mentioned 800,000 sq ft mall, and where exactly will it be? Also interested in hearing what anyone can tell me about the cancer centre and the new residences at U of C. Always thought Canadian universities were very, very far behind American ones when it comes to on campus housing. Certainly that's the case here where the uni has about 9000 students, but room on campus for only about 1000 in a city of less than 100,000.

Another dumb question. I understand that the LRT misses the U of C campus because the uni didn't want a station there. But was it ever considered to swing it further to the west to have it near the Foothills complex? Seems like it might have been a good idea, it's a major destination and employment centre.
