Skydome has the aesthetics and ambiance as a Hospital at times, but the place deserves a lot of credit since it was basically obsolete less than 4 years after it opened.
The roof was ground breaking but they had no fore-knowledge (or didn't want to foot the costs) to put in proper drainage so it could actually be truly multi-purpose/multi-use year round. A host of other issues also come with that place but it's kinda like that old stereo you have that's a relic but still pumps out great bass for its age, you keep it around.
Look at how St Louis (Edward Jones Dome) who's dome isn't even 20 years old yet, and Atlanta (Georgia Dome, 1992) are both moaning, crying, and complaining about how their facilities are obsolete some how. Both facilities, especially in Atlanta, are fine. They should take a page from Skydome which just gets the job done well, but not perfect, with few complaints.
Nobody (yet) is crying for the Skydome to be blown up as it still serves a ton of practical uses. It's been quite resilient and that regard and is starting to be come a outlier (both good and bad) in regards to North American facilities.
