So many trucks will be using the SFPR and they choose to leave NO shoulder between the inside lanes. And no tall wall barrier. Expect A LOT of rocks flying up from opposing lanes into on coming traffic. Cheap cheap cheap

So. Someone seriously dropped the ball today.

Up until now, the only lane open EB had to turn off at 103 Ave. K-rails and cones ensured this. Today, there was an option: turn at 103 or continue on to the Tannery Road / 104 Ave overpass. No signage one way or the other.

However, as it turns out, the overpass was NOT OPEN to Tannery or 104, nor could you go further down to Old Yale / 128. As well, the overpass did NOT connect through to the Surrey Docks.

Instead, it was just a big loop that turned everyone around and sent them back onto Hwy 17... WB now. The people installing the median K-Rails were very efficient and had blocked off Elevator Road, so anyone going to 103 Ave and got confused had to drive ALL THE WAY BACK TO NORDEL WAY!!! (yes, caps and extraneous exclamation points are both necessary).

Dumb, dumb, dumb. With more than a billion flaggers out, why wasn't someone holding a sign that said "TURN THIS WAY DUMMIES!"?

Also consider Nordel Way (previously the connecting road), has an at-grade rail crossing contained in a blind curve, and the limit is still 60km/hr (and no advance signal or crossing gate, either!)

I hope it isn't the government's unofficial policy to set artificially low limits solely for the purpose of generating revenue, which is at best unscrupulous and at worst immoral.

Nordel Way may be a municiupal road, not a Provincial road -so different standards.

It HAS been the policy for years.. this is nothing new.

The speed review they did 10 years ago now.. very few of the speed limit changes proposed were actually implemented. (Read it sometime.. it's boring but comprehensive.. if you need something to fall asleep to).

Now we're jumping through the same damn hoops all over again, ready for more disappointment.

the other thing with the review is that they are solely focussing on rural roads aka everything outside of the lower mainland.

I would be interesting to see what traffic flows at on that road my guess is at around 100kph.

Calm down.

This was a temporary condition to facilitate the closure of the NB turn movement from EB Hwy 17 at Elevator Rd. What you didn't notice was all the trucks that required this loop to get to the Fraser/Surrey docks as the Elevator Rd. intersection is now a Right in/Right out.

For the record, there is a large sign at Elevator Rd. indicating "103 A Ave" (Exit 32) in 1200 m. Then there's another sign just before 103A that says "Exit 32".

Not that it matters anyways, Hwy 17 is now open from the Nordel Connector to Bridgeview Dr. one lane in either direction.

It is? Doesn't look like it from Pattullo Bridge. Either way, I appreciate your input on the project.

Pattullo Bridge (Bridge Road Eastbound) - December 19, 2013 - 2:45:15 PM
Looks closed according to the cams, but who knows if that's accurate considering they have been wonky lately.

Having the Tannery sign before Old Yale might confuse more than a few people who are from out of town, especially when it's before/in a curve like that.

It appears to now be open based on a few cars you can see travelling along it.

Whole thing minus the Burns Bog portion is now open to traffic. Remainder to be opened on Saturday apparently.

As of 4:27 PM:
From: [email protected]
Please be advised of the following traffic pattern changes:
• Elevator Road at SFPR is now in its final configuration, as a right-in/right-out turn movement
• SFPR is open to east and westbound traffic between Highway 91 Connector and Bridgeview Drive

=============

They have not updated the website to reflect that the entrance from River Road at 92nd was closed. It has been for a week, initially I assumed it was because of the grade in icy weather, but they just put up concrete barriers).

Not sure how emergency vehicles can utilize it now that it's closed, if that was the purpose, unless they plan on putting a gate there.

Nordel to Tannery, 95ish feels just right. Not too fast, not too slow. I'm sure if everyone drove like Germans, 110 as a limit would be completely fine for the roadway.

There is electronic signage at the Pattullo section to slow down to 50, but even then it is completely comfortable at 75ish. I hope they re-align that entire section if a new bridge is built.

Pattullo should be 70 (would be reasonable) and the rest should be 90.

I don't know if they are mollycoddling people by deliberately setting the limit lower than it should be, or they just want to give the police something to do.

Highway limits should be the upper end of safe, not the average people are traveling at. Otherwise it just encourages people to ignore it.

Even if it was 90 through Ladner and Burns Bog, and 80 through the intersections (Sunbury, etc.) that would be a justifiable compromise.

Also, no "keep right" signage, which is disappointing, but not surprising. I would rather police were ticketing people for tailgating, swerving, and lane discipline.

River Road has narrow shoulders, no barrier, no access control, and alternating one and two lanes, and manages to be 80km/hr.

Highway 91 has a stoplight at 90 km/hr.

Why shouldn't 90 be reasonable? Especially the Fraser Heights section, which has a design speed of 90. The limit is political.

I just drove SFPR from hwy 91 to 103a ave(wasnt sure if 104 was open).

I have to say that was the greatest drive home from Richmond I've had since I started working out there. Wasn't a single other car on the road at this hour. I made great time not having to watch for construction.

I think we have to keep in mind that this route has been consistently touted at a 'goods movement' route. Yes, it will be used by commuters and ferry goers (like myself), but there will be a steady volume of trucks on this route, and 80 is probably appropriate given that fact.

But what is up with this 50 zone near the Patullo? Is it temporary during construction and opening, or are we stuck with it? It sounds like a potentially major pinch-point for potential accidents and certainly ole constable Joe out the with a 'radar gattling gun' picking people off...

however the section between Tillbury and 17A *IS* a full freeway, as is the first part off of Hwy 1. Those sections should be 90. If they can set 4 different limits on the Golden Ears Way, then why not here too?

it's a pleasure each and every time one gets to drive in Europe.

I don't understand why they don't just periodically take measurements of highway speeds to see what the average flow rate is and adjust accordingly. Many highways could easily get a bump to 110 (99 south of the tunnel and hwy 1 east of the PM).
