It was awesome with the exception of being constantly strafed by transport copters with heavily armed troops hanging out and accidentally riding my bike right into the command center under the convention center and freaking out a bit when my wife and I couldn't find an easy way back out. RTD is tinkering with station names...tinkering I say..some of these are fine, some way long...and why on earth remove "Interntional" from the "Denver Airport" station?

Here are the final station names:
• 38th & Blake (no change)
•40th & Colorado (no change)
•Central Park (no change)
•Peoria (no change)
•40th Ave. & Airport Blvd. • Gateway Park (change from 40th Ave. & Airport Blvd)
•Denver Airport (change from Denver International Airport)

WTF. Was there something offensive about the term "international?" I suppose it gets in the way of our provincial pride - we'd prefer not to seem too global.

They could be trying to move towards a 2-word maximum standard for station names, which would actually be a really great idea. OTOH, if reducing unnecessary words is the idea, just call it "Airport" station.

I love how nonsensically humorous (or is it humorously nonsensical) this thread has become. Speaking of naming, what is the commuter rail going to be called? The Rail seems appropriate.

Anyway, I'm declaring DUS a total failure (because of reasons, shut up).

DA, doesn't roll off the tongue very nicely. Dumbledore's army?

If we are being serious though, the only thing that would make this move acceptable is if it is a precursor to renaming the airport after a human. I am a big fan of naming things after important people. And DIA has become so commonplace, that would be hard to do now without first whittling away at its name recognition. So if it's a transition toward that, okay.

If it is just a plain marketing ploy, it is the stupidest-sounding thing I've ever heard of.

Honolulu already has the rail. Besides, that sounds too sophisticated for Denver. I think we will just go with the train.

Think about the innovative marketing campaigns RTD could go with. For example, "ride the train." Isn't that clever and motivating? Ride the train. I'll bet we'll do a $5 million study to get to that slogan too.

Which will produce a nice simple logo; a rectangle encircling the letters TR, next to (pulling) a square with either an L for lightrail or a C for commuter. surrounded by a circle with the specific line color and letter.

What's harder: rebranding DIA as Denver Airport or getting the IATA to change the code from DEN to DIA?

I bet that's what this whole rebranding is all about: matching the name to the code.

Though if it was a precursor to renaming the airport after someone, who would we go with? Pena, Webb (god knows that he didn't name every goddamn thing in the city after himself), Hickenlooper, Herbie Hancock, etc?

Do you think anybody really cares about that? Anybody can connect DEN and Denver without too much brainache. If this were a real issue, wouldn't we see Chicago working to dump O'Hare in favor or Orchard Field, Washington begging for a switch to DUL (fitting), Atlanta - they've got seventeen names before you get to the Atlanta to match ATL, and Houston, I wouldn't even know what to do with Houston... Houston, Bush, there's not an IAH to be found there.
