As a former and I'm sure someday down the road again resident of Vancouver I emailed in my support. Took a whopping 2 minutes, I suggest those who can spare the time send in the 3 line email as well.

I wonder if it's going to be an Urban Fare that would occupy the market space since the chain belongs to Jim Patterson (the richest man in Canada, BTW). I hope it's going to be a new concept market since there are already so many Urban Fares around downtown.

Jim PattIson also owns Save-on-Foods, which I think currently has no downtown locations. If it is a grocery store, that could be a logical fit.

Urban Fare and Save-On are not the same thing. They are under the same family and carry some overlapping products but they serve different price points.

The grocery store is mid-block on Hornby, not on the corner.

I would be surprised if the grocery store was not a Pattison store of some type.
There's 2 branches to the grocery stores owned by Pattison -

Under the Great Pacific Industries arm (Overwaitea), there's Save-on-Foods, PriceSmart Foods, Overwaitea Foods, Urban Fare and Cooper's Foods. Overwaitea and Cooper's Foods are in smaller communities in BC.

Under the Buy-Low arm, there's Buy-Low Foods, Nester's Market and Meinhardt's.

Given the smaller size of the store, I'd expect any of: Urban Fare, Nester's Market or Meinhardt's, depending on the market they want to appeal to.

The Burrard Gateway location will draw from the West End and Downtown South, not necessarily high end areas (immediate competition being the Independent Grocer and the Safeway on Davie), and it is up the hill from Beach Ave.

The BIG/Westbank project will also have a competing grocery store. Westbank has also had Pattison stores in its projects - Urban Fare at Shangri-La and Nestor's at Woodward's.

If Pattison also opens a grocery at the BIG/Westbank project, that store may be the high end one (Urban Fare or Meinhardt's), with the Burrard Gateway store being a Nester's Market.

Not really... Urban Fare is much closer to Whole Foods. Urban Fare is gourmet where Whole Foods is organic. Both have high end products and prices.

Save-On is like Superstore but cleaner.

I find it to be a bit cheaper. I am always SHOCKED by how much more things cost at Safeway. Although part of this is Save-On, I think, has better sales.

I thought prices at Safeway (and I guess any store) can fluctuate. For example a Safeway close to a no frills will have some lower prices to be more in line with the no frills prices

Safeway prices vary by location - westside (Oakridge, City Square) is more than eastside (Broadway & Commercial).

Yes that makes sense. I wish it would look higher end than the generic Save-on-foods found in most locations. Urban Fare is expensive but it feels warmer inside, and aesthetically pleasing.
