MLB has always been accommodating of Canada Day, usually having a day game at home on July 1st with appropriate fanfare and special uniforms (albeit for the home team only). I've never really heard any of the dozens of Jays fans I know having a problem with the Jays partaking in Independence Day celebrations, but I'm sure our lack of outrage is due entirely to our wannabe Americanness and World Class aspirations...

I'm just commenting about Osmo's indignation. I couldn't really care less about the topic further than that, but if you want to have a knee-jerk "Don't call me an American wannabe" moment, knock yourself out.

Well really there are only a couple of Canadian-only holidays (if I can use that term). There's Victoria day (usually a week before US Memorial Day) Canada Day and in Quebec St. Jean Baptiste Day. By the time our Thanksgiving rolls around baseball is over.

Sorry, that was meant in jest and probably could have used a winky-face!

No they don't. The only exceptipn would be the camo in the hat logo in 2012 - let's look at the last 4 years

July 4th 2013 vs Tigers

July 4th 2012 vs Royals

July 4th 2011 vs Red Sox

July 4th 2010 vs Yankees

and this in 2009

Ottawa Stadium update.

December 17, 2013

-At the south stands, work on the interior is advancing. The suites are being built on the second level and the media box at the top of the stands is being enclosed.
-All the vertical beams of the Veil behind the south stands have now been installed. Fine adjustments are being made to ensure the structure is perfectly aligned.
-At the north stands, work is starting on the foundations for the new field-level seating.

The vertical beams of the Veil are now in place behind the south stands.

Overlooking the north stands, from the Bank Street Bridge. The columns and walls for the first floor of the new condominium tower next to the bridge are now being built.

Masonry walls are now built for the player’s entrance at the back of the south stands.

Workers use a large crane to carefully position remaining vertical pieces of the Veil.

I'm a bit jealous of all the new facilities that Toronto and Hamilton are getting for the Pan Am Games. When Winnipeg hosted in 1999, all we really got was a fresh coat of paint slapped on our existing venues, many of which dated back to the 1967 Pan Am Games.

The only brand new facilities I can think of were the Investors Group Athletic Centre (which serves as home to the U of M's basketball and volleyball teams) and the Shaw Park baseball stadium downtown. It pales in comparison to the building boom taking place in Ontario.

Hamilton has no chance of being in THF this year that is far worse than the delays the Bombers had with IGF.

Yeah, that's a great ballpark but you kinda have to wonder what the point of it all was. Perhaps organisers just didn't look at the games that way (i.e. an opportunity to score tonnes of new athletic facilities, etc.).

Fortunately, they wouldn't have to rely solely on game day attendance to be viable. MLB hasn't been a gate driven league for well over a decade now, and even the teams drawing in the teens for a season attendance average are making money. The other factors that brought down the Expos in the first place have either already been solved or could be easily solved now. A new ballpark would be the last (but expensive) piece to the puzzle.

you'd be surprised how much they can get done on a bar bones stadiums such as THF. have a look at comparison photos from ottawas stadium and THF that day back to june of this year and see how much THF has caught up (there was no THF)

mark my words it will be completed in time. i too was a cynical not believer however i drive by the stadium everyday and i assure you the progress being made is crazy

Frank Clair at 24,000 seats is too small can't get decent crowd noise at that level and I hope they expand it very soon to around the 28,000 range. It seems easy to do with those open grass end zones.

Looks great...I love the color variations in the seats, although I wonder if the black seats will be hard to sit in on a hot sunny summer day.

So long as only the undersides heat up when flipped vertical, it should be fine. (but I sat in a section of IWS that had black benches with black backrests so I know what you're getting at... ouch)

Thanks for posting these. I had been under the impression that the height of the seatingof the south grandstand rose as it reached the centre; now I see that it's just the roof or veil that does this. Gives me a much better idea of what the layout will be. Also very easy to see where potential expansion could be.
