Thanks. I was quite impressed after I began my search for photos of the city. Not only is the urban fabric interesting, but the city seems to actually have "boroughs" if only 2 or 3. The natural beauty surrounding the city is likely unmatched by any non-mountain city in the world.

The Oldtown is my favorite "borough". So much character in its little skyline and in its heritage, such as the Wildcat Cafe, an 80+ year old log cabin, the oldest still-in-use building in NWT.

The downtown looks cool too, much better than expected for a city that hovers between 19 and 20 000 people...

Thanks, guys. I'm glad you liked the Shanghai aerials.

And as Kool mentioned, it's nice to have one thread in the Canada forum where us Canadian expats can post pictures of where we currently live.

Ok, one more from last Saturday, and then I'm done until the new year.

^ Great contrast between pictures of Yellowknife and Shanghai. Two vastly different places, worlds apart, yet both fascinating in their own ways.

Yellowknife looks very cool. There's something so... Newfoundland... about it, but it's still very different. Maybe it's what we'd have looked like had we joined sooner?

Perhaps, it is hard to say. To be honest, the most "Newfoundland" looking northern city that I can think of is actually Iqaluit. If you look past the fact that there is no grass, the buildings are very colourful and it looks nice and quaint, similar to a small Newfie community like Stephenville or Labrador City-Wabush.

Here is an amazing photo of London Ontario with the star being One London Place.

Hmm... maybe. But it's so much more organized. Yellowknife has that same haphazard, buildings in the fold of the landscape look. Iqaluit is colourful, but just looks so... forced on the landscape. It doesn't fit into its surroundings very well.

That Five Roses neon (from the forties) just got a one-million restauration paid by the owner as a gift to Montreal (the sign is considered a landmark).

Have you looked at Iqaluit? There's like 2 rectangular blocks total (that are no where near one another and probably accidental), everything else is twisting winding chaos. Downtown Yellowknife is built on an actual grid.

^ Is that a Chinese knockoff of a Protegé?

The Mazda logo looks... slightly different.

It is indeed a imitation, but the company behind it used to be a joint venture between Mazda and a chinese company (Hainan + Mazda = Haima).

An amazing picture taking during a horrible time, the 2013 floods.

Wow, that picture of Quebec City is beautiful. I don't see that angle very often either - it's looking roughly southwest from across the St. Lawrence isn't it, before the river turns and splits around Ile d'Orleans?
