You really would hate for Toronto to have anything interesting, wouldn't you?

That's not even a comment about this specific proposal, but an observation I've had overall.

I just find so much that gets passed around as interesting and/or innovative is simply not good. With that said, this tower is perfect fit for Edmonton's developing brand of architecture.

For Toronto, I'll settle for the growing popularity of cheap, Chinese Curtain wall or, for example, Sota's Hybrid Wall.

Any Edmonton forumers have any insight as to the credibility of this proposal? Or is it another "Edmontonian" pump-and-dump situation?

Procura is behind it and they have done a considerable amount of late, but this would be significantly beyond anything they have done in either Edmonton or Calgary... so...

It looks similar to the towers under construction in Karashi or Erbil.

at whoever thinks Procura will build that photoshopped proposal in Edmonton. Might as well just color in the Freedom tower for their next proposal for that site due next month. About as likely as that amateur developer from sherwood park developer building "the edmontonian."

So we are like making gold out of wool here, with nothing to back it up. So as predicted when the slowdown comes, I see the Alberta cities taking the lead for Canada.

It's a true paradigm shift, something like what happened to Montreal in the late 1970's and early 1980's.
Unless you predict Toronto slowing to Hamilton/Winnipeg levels, I don't think you should be too concerned about Edmonton.

Calgary, who knows? Everybody thought the city overbuilt last cycle with a massive amount of new commercial and residential inner-city supply, but here we are again. Basically deja-vu. If the city can maintain this huge amount of commercial construction, it'll likely spawn even more hotel and residential construction across the inner-city for the foreseeable future. The amount of infill developments (including the smaller projects not reported here) is ridiculous lately, and that's mainly because of the growing emphasize of living close to downtown where all these white color professionals work.

I would say that Vancouver is more a challenge to Toronto than Calgary. Calgary might be taller, but Vancouver's well on it's way to be a sea of towers.

In the mid to late 1990's all the way to the early aughts Vancouver was actually the skyscraper construction leader of Canada.

I mentioned Calgary and Edmonton because those cities are acendant in Canada. Vancouver and Toronto are more or less in the same boat at this time.

Agreed, I mock Edmonton in jest all the time but that's a tad harsh. Kudos to them if they build a new tallest outside TO.

It will take two years for Toronto to drop down to the rest of the pack if new high rises breaking ground came to an abrupt halt which ain't gonna happening.

Don't get too excited - it's City Council deliberating on the fate of the Mirvish-Gehry towers. Should they reject the proposal, they're off.
