That's one big hole!

By the way, the hole at Harbour Plaza is almost at ground level. Podium levels visible from street level by February????

Agree. People were cementing their opinions on AURA before its true proportions were realized. It was always going to look awkward and spandrel heavy during most of its construction. People are still disappointed with the quality of the glazing on the lower portion and that pitiful underground 'mall', but the overall building looks quite good and has done wonders for this part of the downtown.

I'm disappointed by Aura, the lower levels aren't that great the balconies are terrible, and the "Mall" —. I was expecting it to be like Pacific Mall, however its like North York Sheridan Mall but without the hood rats. The two newest and tallest towers in Toronto have been near disasters.

Thank god One Bloor is looking so good, can't wait for the cladding to go up on that one. I will not be fooled by the cladding on the lower levels like Aura did with the curtain wall cladding on the mall, then switched to spandrel cladding on the 5th floor.

My opinion hasn't change as Aura reaches completion. It's mediocre which is only increased by its scale.

Definitely a disappointment, its not the iconic structure I was expecting. Although Aura at least has a few angles where it looks good/decent up close, can't really say the same about Trump.

The north side of Aura is passable but, it doesn't contend with Trump looking up for the northwest corner of Bay & Adelaide.

Trump looks wonderful if you stand with your back to it.

From a distance, Trump looks good and fits in with the skyline very nicely. The average everyday person has never said anything bad about the building. In fact, most people I take by Trump say positive things. Only skyscraper and architectural junkies on these forums and UT criticize it heavily.

As for Aura, it's no gem, but it's not bad. Once it's all cladded, topped out, and the lights are shining on the top, it will be a stand out in the TO skyline. Take a magnified glass to it and you will of course see it's pretty mediocre but the average everyday person will just comment on it's massive height, size, and how nice it looks. Come on, it's a 900ft tower... something no other city in this country has, nor has even proposed. It's a shame it's not as well thought out and high in quality like L Tower, Delta, ICE, and a few others, but it's no disaster IMO.

The average person likes NY Towers particularly when the crown is lit at night.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy night lighting however, there is definitely something unsatisfactory about the design/finishes when that is the "saving grace" for us junkies.

I agree with what Travis says. I think the average person is likely impressed by Trump, and certainly Aura (which I like, except for the glaringly uneven floors).
But NY Towers? Those are about the nadir of arshitectural schlock, especially the Chrysler knockoffs. No one with the slightest sense of taste could find those anything but appalling. I mean, if you're going to crown your buildings with those horrid plastic garnishes, at least go all the way and make the towers tall so the kitsch at the top is less apparent. Those are stumpy, to boot. I would gladly depress the TNT lever on those turds.

NY Towers were among the first towers of the boom and reduced in height by half, and made squat to compensate by the planning board and city.

They were supposed to be near 50 floors, I believe they got the go ahead in 2002/2003. They are right there with Pantages, 1 King West and Apex at Concord Place. If it had proceeded now they would be at least 10 floors taller. (Thanks to themselves setting the precedent). Can't blame Daniels 100% for this —.

That flashy rendering dipicted towers of 38 storeys in an area with a strict 28 floor building height. Daniels, like most Toronto developers, was unwilling to work within zoning guidlines. Although perhaps the 38 storeys towers were visionary and the actual submission were what was built. I don't recall a preliminary report with the 38 storey towrrs.

Aside from that, I'm not sure how garbage becomes stunning with additional height. (Less stumpiness notwithstanding)

Stunning, no, but perhaps less noisome. I say "perhaps" because I don't know if anything could ameliorate that ghastly trash. It's really about as bad as it gets.

Pile driving at Brookfield Place is complete. All three have been folded up and only one left to be taken away.

Almost, just waiting for confirmation that 10 York - 224 meters is underway. if it is, I believe Ernst and Young Tower will be jetted off the list..

I definitely feel like the upper cladding on Aura is its saving grace. I don't dislike the lower portion as much as I read from a lot of the comments on here, although I can see why people feel that way. I'm looking forward to seeing it completely finished, especially the crown, as I am really curious as to how the final product will look.
