FWIW, the first one is more accurate (Which was quite nicely done). From this angle/distance the 50ft difference would be fairly imperceptible. Since river point is more in the foreground, it should still be larger in the photo.

The river point perspective is definitely skewed to make it look more prominent, so it isn't totally accurate. The top of 150 should be closer to the red line than it is in the more recent version.

150 N Riverside really looks like a $799-range ionic air purifier. I'm pretty sure last time I was shopping I saw the same thing except about shin-high.

I am not a huge fan of the overall design either. Something bothers me, i think it is just to angular/boxy. I like the tapering effect at the bottom, but maybe have the corners rounded? With the Nuveen building, River Point, and even the future main buildings at Wolf Point being somewhat curved i think it just doesn't blend in.

I think it's a good compliment to the Boeing Building, even if it is large. They seem to have similar artistic style in my eyes.

The first one seems like 150 is too tall, the second one too short. But, no need to be picky, they are great images and I can't wait to see these monsters added to our city.

150 is not a good building. Why do people like this? look at how banal it looks next to the building that looks just like it across the river. it might as well not even be there. you won't even notice it being there, which is sort of incredible for a 700 ft building.

it's just not at all interesting. a shimmering glass facade is pretty, which could be okay if it weren't right next to 10 buildings with shimmering facades (many of which have interesting designs) but in this case we just have a carbon copy of a building across the way. i am pissed.

i like it too. i especially love the the way the cantilevered office levels taper outward from the base as a solution to the difficult site constraints below. it's gonna be a fantastic addition to the south branch river canyon.

It's a compliment of what's across the river, not a carbon copy. There are many differences which make it unique. Also, considering there aren't many other sites like this in the world, the building will truly be a feat of engineering.

I think my problem is that while I like the building, I don't like it there. The interesting things about it seem like the product of space constraints, as if it were going in a tight Loop half-block like its cousin across the river. The space it's occupying is instead more like a roomy showcase for a design. Lots of breathing room, plus it directly faces the river, which is like our official architecture vantage point.

It's no secret that the design is a rehash of previous building designs from the same architect. That on its own isn't necessarily a bad thing, but imagine if something had been designed specifically for that location.

What I love about River Point is how the design seems to be aware of its location. It presents a bold face to the river, because it knows people will be staring at it from boats and the riverfront and it feels like it takes advantage of the fact that it's going to be one of the last structures to contribute to the river corridor.

Again, I like 150 N. It's just a shame that it feels like a copy/paste from the architects' previous work unceremoniously dropped onto a piece of land someone needed a building for, rather than something crafted specifically to take advantage of this gem of a location.

I liked the design of 150 N. when the renders were first released but now viewing it next to Riverside I have so much contempt.

Roomy showcase for design? Lots of breathing room? Sandwiched between the river and working railroad tracks below? This seems to me like the definition of a constrained site.

Well, yeah that's true. It's a narrow slice of land, but it's not tucked in shoulder-to-shoulder between 4 other skyscrapers. Between the river and the space on all sides, there's a lot of unobstructed (and unless they pave the river, permanently unobstructed) views of it.

It might look better in reality than in these Xbox quality renderings.

I like 150 N. It will be a welcome addition to the Chicago River canyon. Btw, these were made on my phone, not an xbox

I mean the original renders from the architects. Obviously not as high quality as that River Point video.

Any city would be fortunate to receive 150 N to the mix. It's street level friendly, but adds a ton of density and in my opinion looks good.

This.

This isn't a beauty contest folks, and even if it was, the design for 150 N is many levels above most commercial proposals, in Chicago or elsewhere (Beitler's now-cancelled 26 story POS, anyone?).

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions about highrises, that's the purposes of this forum, but for me personally, I'll reserve final judgement once that building has finally risen the full 740'+ off the ground (I expect Steely to correct me on the final height, but that's ok). As it stands, the design is unique, attractive and given GP's attention to detail on their other commercial high-rises, I do believe this will be no exception.
