I also like the fact that they didn't buy up the entire block and put a generic-sized "podium" type building; we're losing the smaller grain of buildings too quickly.

It works simply because they sold the upper units for over $1,000/SF, and most of the rest of the building around $800/SF...those are high prices even for a nice new downtown building.

Apparently they've sold 10 of 15 units with completion coming up in a few months. Not surprisingly, the ones that have been tough to sell are the smaller non-view units.

Agreed. Such buildings as in the render go great with curved streets, especially.
There's a rather similar one on a curve going into major street near where I live, and it's sleek, modern, and looks like
something out of the expensive parts of LA.
Yet it goes perfectly with the adjoining classic Parisian architecture somehow, don't ask me how.

Anyone know what's planned for the former Service Canada building at 125 E 10th? Blue fencing is up but no indication of what they are doing.

I received an email from yesterday saying they had only 3 homes left. It's a marketing email of course so take that with a grain of salt.

From Changing City Updates:

179 Main St.

Another Downtown Eastside project, this time proposed for the north end of Main Street with nine floors. Altogether 56 rental units are proposed, nine of them as social housing over retail on the main floor. There’s an open house coming up in the New Year, and no doubt a design review, although there’s also a provisional February Development Permit Board date set already. It’s designed by Atelier Pacific Architectural – a company based in Gastown whose work has almost all been outside the city.

380 W 5th Avenue

The zoning in the Mount Pleasant Industrial area was ‘tweaked’ a little earlier in the year. Now developers can have up to double the site area in office use, provided they build the same as the site area as industrial-type space. (There is a long list of possible uses – but the building can’t be purely office). Here’s a project from Cressey, designed by IBI Group that fits the new zoning – perhaps the first of many as there are some obvious redevelopment opportunities in that area.

On first glance, I thought the sign on 380 W 5th Avenue said "filth."

The imaginatively named "Main Street" by Bluetree Homes at Main and King Ed. I'm surprised they didn't go for an extra story here:

It's actually a fairly small site. The DP was approved before the city passed it's new C2 guidelines and before Rental 100. There wasn't much precedent to go higher than 4 storeys when it was proposed.
