This is so cool. I always felt that those intersections (7th/Figueroa and Wilshire/Figueroa) were kinda open-ended on the western side of Figueroa St. Now this new tower can enclose that area and really amplify the pedestrian traffic down there. Call me crazy but 7th/Figueroa has got to be DTLA's busiest crosswalk.

FINALLY. Getting to witness a supertall rising will be a pretty cool treat. Seeing the LA skyline dramatically change and the intersection below become a focal point is truly exciting. Question...is the northern face of the tower flat with only the southern curved? The renders always looked like both were curved. Or maybe its just the below ground structure that is shaped that way? Not sure how that works.

I was lucky enough to see the rise of the US Bank Building but am disappointed I won't be around to see this one rise too. But I'm really looking forward to it...

The new renderings are nice but I'm really not sold on the shape of it. It's kind of like an updated early 2000's pomo tower or something. It seems like it's trying to be different, but in a very boring uninspired way. I think LA can do better.

I'm not overwhelmed with the design either (Plaza 66 meets Chifley) but it's a really decent looking tower. It will be fun to watch rise, especially while stuck in traffic on the NB 110.

Not really a new tallest for LA as far as I'm concerned. More like a total bs tallest with the crown/spire combo significantly inflating the height of the actual building.

However, I'm still happy to see LA finally get a huge new tower in the skyline! Just count me among the people who put more weight in the top of the roof than the top of a stick on the roof.

I agree to a point. In my mind, the Transbay Tower in SF is going to be the true tallest in the state (30 ft shorter than Wilshire Grand, but no spire). However, Wilshire Grand will have 73 floors, which is the same number of floors as LA's current tallest. And 73 floors, whether residential or office, seems very very tall in person, or from a distance.

In person, in my opinion, the Aon Center seems like the tallest building in the city, even taller than the US Bank tower, so with that said we'll have to see about Wilshire Grand. It will be kind of sandwiched between 777 Fig and Fig @ Wilshire, both very tall towers (700+ ft high), so Wilshire Grand may just appear super tall in person when it's built, and that's half of what counts, right?

For perspective, the top floor at TB Tower in SF will be around 900 ft up whereas the top floor at Wilshire Grand will be around 750 ft up.

The tallest views in the state will still be had from the US Bank Tower in LA.
