can really see it coming down now. about half gone, very bright. i would assume it to remain bright viewing from street level since the mid lot section of Lido is only several stories

It certainly seems that the Olymic Village and surrounding developments are competing with the Yaletown/Marinaside area to see who will be crowned for having the most conformed monotony.

So Meccanica is not in fact on the corner of 1st and Quebec? I thought their marketing material always put the building on the corner. Or possibly I'm confused..

I was thinking about that too until i noticed the small building is the same size as the white building on the corner of 2nd and quebec. it is also the same width as the lawn in front of the storage place across from the white building.

Could the city have plans to widen quebec?

Yeah, it's just a wide setback.
There was that plan for the Kingsway diversion - to divert Kingsway onto Quebec - but I seem to recall JLousa saying that was now dead.

Either way, it makes sense that Quebec be widened to match the segment to the north (with median and curbside parking).

Thanks for the updates. I'm still finding Opsal very underwhelming, but it's nice to see the Main St. canyon taking shape with Lido's rental block rising next to Central's office block.

I kind of love Opsal Steel, the stitched-seam balconies are this perfect blend of visually interesting without being cloying or ridiculous. I mean, I guess we can all be disappointed that it isn't three miles tall or whatever, but for its height I think it is very nice and certainly one of the most interesting buildings in the area.

I was thinking the same thing. It's so rare to see any kind of non-corny variation in Vancouver that even a small touch like those balconies is so nice.

I agree with both of you, the Opsal balconies do look really good. Especially the fact that they aren't just a triangle jutting out, but are an entire square.
