Target or anybody else will NEVER carry America only contraband such as cherry coke, funions, peanutbutter klondike bars etc etc. until Canada gets rid of the dual language packaging requirements at least for non-french markets. Even then, you won't see the selection because alot of products are simply not approved by the FDA. Whether the American companies just haven't submitted products for testing or the products failed the tests...who knows.

The FDA is American...and labelling isn't the difference. It's one small factor in very large market differences.

Any body have any info on this project as of yet? I don't re-call if this land aquisition has any bearing on the Red River Ex/Ass. Downs/legal wrangling/ court / waiting to appeal the decision situation?

That's the one that wanted a hockey rink for WHL team too right? And that has since been put on the back burner.

46 affordable units (as per MMRs), 56 market units including 16 premium units with upgraded finishes etc.

Of those 46 more than half will be eligible for rent supplements.

UWinnipeg will own and operate the building although not like a student residence. Like a typical apartment block. Good use of a surface parking lot!

This sounds like the Westport Festival plan. I know the plans had called for a couple of hotels and the rest of the description seems to fit. The hotels would be along Race Track Rd on land the Red River Ex owns but plans to sell to privately held interests. The proposed convention space would then be build on land currently owned by Red River Ex that they plan to retain.

Perhaps the business plan for the hotels are affected by the Headingley by-pass which is likely to see significant volumes of traffic shifted away from Portage Ave.

Excellent, Is the Winter Club going to remain or is it an Eventual Demo?

The old Tennis court at the rear of the building was always a prime spot for an apt/condo complex.

Maybe we can finally get more people using the Harkness RT station...

We'll be just like Minneapolis. Next thing up would be to cut a three block wide swath through the middle of the city for a freeway.

I got the perfect idea... Instead of going North East through Little Mountain Park for CCW to link up with Peguis Trail, they can go straight East and just tear up Woodsworth Park, Shaughnessy Park, Northwood Park, cut right through the Shaughnessy neighbourhood, Old Ex Park, then widen Selkirk and have it cut through North Point Douglas to connect to Disraeli Freeway. Everyone knows only crack head and sniffers use those parks and live in those neighbourhoods... And Selkirk Ave. is just a bunch of rundown businesses that aren't worth half as much as a parking lot infused retail outlet centre.

That way, we won't inconvenience the softball players and the cross country skiers.

By freeways you mean those things that modern North American cities all have that allow for the free flow of people and goods in a safe manner, add to a cities economic prosperity and cut down on travel times.

Sure cities like Calgary, Edmonton and even Saskatoon realized a long time ago that good roadway system was needed but look at those cities all languishing economically.

Winnipeg on the other hand decided the 1950's were the best era and there was no need to move from it with roadways for the future.
