Good news, all of the other models of buses are many times more comfortable.

Yep. I didn't mention the bad news though, CT is buying more of those buses.

Boooo. You'd think they could at least get them with better suspension. Maybe they only last a few years because the whole bus is rattled loose..

Using Calgarians' tax breaks for bus-only lanes just one vote short of a return trip to your wallet:

Awwww, no comments section in this article!

Every time I read the comments section in the Sun I always picture the commentators as looking like caricatures of used car salesmen from Dallas.

So basically Chu is the absolute worst representative for North Central Calgary. almost his entire ward is served by the 301 and the centre street corridor that carries 90 buses per hour. And Chu decides that nope, his constituents don't need transit.

And he campaigned on "other areas need transit first." That may or may not be true, but stand up for your ward!

Easiest campaign in the world to unseat him. "Sean Chu voted against improving transit on Centre street." Put signs saying that everywhere you can, near every bus stop, especially on Centre Street. Go out doorknocking and say to every single household "did you know Sean Chu voted against improving transit on Centre Street? Did you know Centre Street is the busiest bus corridor in the entire city? Why would Sean Chu vote against such a motion? He clearly does not understand the needs of north central Calgary.

It would be akin to Shane Keating voting against money for the SELRT.

Comments section is showing up for me.

Returning the money is such a terrible idea, for so many reasons. There's talk in the article about how returning the money could actually cause a tax cut for 2014 of 1%. Of course, it doesn't mention that would automatically add 4% or so to next years budget - on top of whatever was already proposed. I can imagine the complaints in the online comments then.

returning $52 million doesn't mean that everyone will simply get $50 per person returned in their property taxes. It will be divided up proportional to how much tax people pay. So the people that could most use tax money back, are the people who would get the least back, and the people who pay lots of tax, would get most of the money back, but those people are the people who generally don't need tax money back. The administration costs in returning the money would probably cost nearly as much as the money given back to the average middle class family with a house worth less than the average house cost. What would I expect back, 20 bucks? Vote not to take the money in the future, sure, but don't return money. I think that, with the unfunded projects list that we have, that not taking advantage of the tax room is silly. Here is a way that council can address a whole bunch of the unfunded projects list without increasing Calgarians' net tax paid.

Since this is the transit thread, I look at the RouteAhead plan, over 30 years, which is mostly unfunded. In 30 years, we'll be a city of 2+ million people, and I think that if we only build what is in the RouteAhead plan in those 30 years, we will likely be just as far behind then as we are now. And we are going to have to get creative with our funding strategy to even get the plan built in 30 years. Essentially, the 30 year plan doesn't cover the new growth areas that will happen in those 30 years.

That's what hurts the most for someone living in Ward 4. His campaign website literally said that most people he had spoken to agreed that they did not want a NCLRT and that the SELRT should go ahead first. I cannot believe how it is remotely possible that people in his constituent would actually want to continue with the cluster fuck that is Centre Street during rush hour.

Therefore, I'm not even remotely surprised that he would vote against allocating the funds to the NCLRT and SELRT route. This man has absolutely no vision and has no understanding of the needs of the people of his ward. Let's hope we see another upset in the next election but I'm worried since he seems to have some very wealthy donors.

It's a pro-bike lanes, pro-transit type of day:

Calgary Transit to boost service by 55K hours
Council approves new services hours to be financed by increased ridership

Calgary Transit will boost its service by 55,000 hours in 2014 according to a plan approved by city council on Tuesday. (CBC)

City council has approved a plan to provide Calgarians with more public transportation options next year.

Calgary Transit will add 55,000 new hours of service, funded through higher revenues which have resulted from increased ridership.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi said council likes the idea of reducing the crowding on some bus routes by increasing frequency, and also getting buses into new communities sooner.

“One thing we're really learning is that, as we are building new communities to be more transit friendly, there's a real pent-up demand to take transit,” he said.

A monthly bus pass will cost more in the New Year. It's going up by two dollars to $96 for an adult monthly pass. The adult cash fare stays at $3.

Sean Chu's campaign team didn't even know where his ward borders were. I got a mail flyer and a phone call, and I'm not even in his riding.

So it sounds like the $520 over 10 years for the green line passed?
