Ah, I think I get it now. The thread header will be bolded indicating a new unread post. If you click on it to read the post then the bold lettering will disappear. Try it.

What page are you looking at that you see that?

Could it be they're bold because there are unread posts in those thread?

Ahh, my bad.

Threads are bolded if a new post has been added or if an older post has been edited - relative to the last time you logged on. Every one of us will see a slightly different screen.

A few photos of a new Ellerdale Street apartment. At four floors it's twice as tall as I thought it was going to be:

I heard thru reliable sources that the new Sobeys store will indeed be build on the old Zellers property!
They are planning on cutting back in to the hill where the parking lot is also.

Also that the new liquor store will be moveing into the old Sobey's along with a Needs conveniance store and gas bar

I hope so, as it makes a lot of sense despite what a Sobeys employee told me. I heard it was to be a Sobeys Community Store, what ever that is?

My understanding is that the new Sobey's will be huge, they will be useing the old parking lot in back as well, and closeing one end of Newman Street .

You will see lots of activity as they are suppose to be opened by Oct 2014!

That's great news. That Zellers location had been a blight even when they were still operating. It's good to see Sobey's improving that location as the current building is an absolute mess. It'll also be nice to see NBLiqour and Needs opening there. A gas bar in that parking lot is going to be a nightmare.

The new apartment building at the end of Adelaide that Wolken posted earlier this week: ..is that more Chinese investment? The new home near that and the retail across from Subway is Chinese. They've been buying up property in that part of the North End for a few years now.

Either way it's all good news. I'm glad my old part of town is getting a little uplift.

I think we will see a lot more investment into the old North End in the future. Momentum is building

Is it true that there is a bylaw in the city stating no structure can be higher than the Cathedral?

No.

All maximum heights are specified in the zoning bylaw and the Central Business Zone currently permits heights up to 125m, far higher than the Cathedral.

What is the rationale behind a height restriction?

Depends on the city. Sometimes they are for practical reasons like air corridors. Other times it's to prevent things like long shadows over public areas or schools. They can be for purely aesthetic reasons as well - not wanting a building that sticks out significantly from the height of its neighbours.

The City adopted PlaySJ! Personally I only think the fourplex is a good idea, if it is build in a place like where the old forum was.

There is a lot of land down in the north end, and if we only have one place to go for hockey, it needs to be accessible to the city's lower class as mobility is always an issue with centralization.

SAINT JOHN gets 275 jobs at TD Insurance call centre

121 positions already posted, remainder to be created by December 2016

TD Insurance is creating more than 275 jobs at its Saint John Client Service and Claims Response Centre by December 2016, Premier David Alward announced on Tuesday.

More than 120 positions at the Rothesay Avenue centre have already been posted on the TD website.

"Financial services are among the fastest growing sectors in New Brunswick and we are pleased TD Insurance has chosen Saint John to expand its operations," Alward said in a statement.

“Working with strong partners like TD Insurance is a key part of our government's plan to create jobs and rebuild the economy," he said.

The expansion is expected to contribute about $40 million annually to the province's gross domestic product once all of the positions are filled, officials said.

The announcement was made at news conference at the TD Insurance Client Service and Claims Response Centre about 4 p.m.

However, Alward announced the job figure in the legislature earlier in the day.

Frank McKenna, the deputy chairman of the TD Bank Group and Kenn LaLonde, the president and chief executive officer of TD Insurance, also participated in the announcement.

TD Insurance offers a wide range of products to help protect customers including credit protection, auto, home, health, life and travel insurance.

This is excellent news. These are good paying jobs. I had a chance to work there several years back and it is a class operation. I know many friends and former colleagues who are currently employed there and they love it. Great news or Saint John.

The lower class doesn't play hockey. It's too expensive for them.
