Yep. I noticed that too. It seems to indicate a square building with some sort of twisting feature at least near the top of the building. By the way, I will be glad to see a square building get built as opposed to all of the rectangular boxes we've been seeing.

GDOT came up with a proposal a couple of years ago to have a huge interstate tunnelled under the east side of atlanta, connecting GA 400 to I-675. if that wasn't too extravagant, tunnelling the downtown connector, which is much more realistic, seems like a viable option.

There's never been a plan to bury the connector though which would be incredibly expensive. The connector beautification plan does include a couple of parks over the connector similar to what was done at the 5th street bridge.

I bet they confirm both feasibility and demand.

This will be cool. I like the way they are incorporating the facade of the Crum & Forster building.

It would have taken BILLIONS to do the 400>675 tunnel and would have made the "Big Dig" look like a kid in a sandbox. I didn't think much about it until a short time later when I saw the Will Smith & "I, Robot" and the huge freeways under Chicago and thought "OK, maybe it's not so far fetched but how would you pay for it?".

About what, 15 miles of this?

i wouldn't call the "big dig" a kid in a sandbox compared to the burial of the downtown connector or the 675-400 connection either one. the big dig was a *huge* proposal that involved both tunnelling under the CBD *and* diverting a major interstate under the harbour:

burying the connector and I-20 would be a comparable project rather than a larger one. the biggest obstacle would be building the interchange between the two, if that was to be done. they could simply divert the traffic to the perimeter, so it could be the path to get on I-20 and the downtown connector and avoid the interchange altogether.

Does anyone know what is being built just a tad northwest of the Dunwoody Marta station? It doesn't look like it is on the Development Map.

Well Cox Communications is expanding their campus with a new building going up - which definitely fits the description of "a tad northwest". there are also two large apartment projects on Hammond just west of the station.

This property is across from Miso on Edgewood, and across Airline from the new self storage property. The zoning request is to change it to Multifamily Residential and Commercial. According to current tax records the owner appears to be a special purpose (single asset) entity with the same address as Cartel Properties. Cartel is/was a major landholder in Buckhead Village but I am not overly familiar with their projects.

Upscale 6-Story Nursing Facility Coming to Peachtree Street Near Piedmont Hospital

Maybe not the ideal use for this land, but the building will come right up to Peachtree street and has more than 6 times the square footage of the current one-story building. The architect has some passable mid-rise work in their portfolio.

I believe they are due to present a revised plan to the DRC next month. If this is the current rendering, it looks like it's grown by about 10 stories from the original proposal.

This is NOT for a development. It is BeltLine-inated rezoning to bring zoning in conformance with the BeltLine Subarea 5 Master Plan. In other words, to prevent another mess like what is going on in Grant Park right now with Fuqua.

If this is indeed the new proposal, it's 1,000 times better than the cheesy looking low rent beach condo that was originally planned for this site.

Though the density that is going up along Peachtree is quite impressive, I really hope that these developers start paying attention to the architectural details of these buildings on the side streets. Once Peachtree Street is built out (decades from now, I know), side street developments are going to be more desirable. I believe that side streets serve to enhance the pedestrian experience by providing a respite from the more intense main drags.
