Compare that to new downtown buildings like One Pacific ($665/SF) or Maddox by Cressey ($700/SF).

This project looks to be a higher end tower design for a higher price range. I think Metrotown is definitely growing up more with the kick in the pants by Brentwood and a nice higher end tower isn't a bad thing. Seems expensive, but for many people living in Metrotown is actually more desirable than downtown Vancouver.
If I ever moved further west I'd probably stop around Metrotown and go no further. You're in between downtown Vancouver and Surrey/Coquitlam. You have all the shopping you'd ever need, and even though there isn't a huge amount of entertainment like downtown, again you're so close (15-20 minute SkyTrain) that it isn't that bad. It's a good place, and the tower probably commands those prices especially units in the location with that finishing of that size in a tower.
This also bodes well for the further out burbs of Coquitlam, New Westminster, and Surrey because it is helping the shift away from the region being so Vancouver-centric.
