Is the Sears Home store the right size for Best Buy? Also if Costco moves, this could mean too large vacant spaces. Maybe RioCan got out at the right time? Also anymore word on The Brick coming to Moncton? As for the Outlet Mall, what about Salisbury, Shediac, Sackville or Riverview? I know Moncton is a decent sized city, but they are also a regional base for population too.

Yes, lots to speculate upon.

- Is Day & Ross moving to Berry Mills Road? - at least 50/50 odds.
- Will Costco move to the old Day & Ross site? - rumour is that they may have bought the land, but only to hold in their back pocket for now.
- What would then happen to the existing Costco location if they move? - could Bass Pro Shops move in there? - possibly, the site is the right size, but then a 2015 opening date would be very optimistic.
- Will Sears Canada shut down as a chain? - what will happen to the Champlain Place location? - would the Bay move in and take over?
- What would happen to the Sears Home store in Wheeler Park? - would the Bay move their Home Outfitters store into that building?

Lots to keep discussion active in this thread for years to come!!

At the very least, I'm willing to predict that big things are going to be on the horizon for the TCH/Mapleton intersection. Cabela's (and possibly Costco) will be huge catalysts for future development.

I heard a rumour that Costco was having a hard time getting out of wheeler and that they are considering buying the sears home and putting their gas bar in there. There was also talk that the first entrance by sears would be removed to make more parking and reduce congestion here. I can't remember where I heard this, so take it for what it is worth, but it is another possibility for Costco.

I also heard that it costs A LOT of money to up keep the huge retaining walls on the side and rear of Costco because the building is so close and it's steep and long...

On another note I was in Fredericton for the PC party AGM and I tool a few minutes after the AGM to take a walk in the Regent Mall and boys was I impressed with the renos that Cadilac Fairview had done in that mall before selling it. Another thing that impressed me too was the choice that you have in there VS Champlain place that is slowly turning into a chick mall. Also when i was walking the halls I saw a few retailers that we do not have in Moncton like Journey's, AERIE, Teavanas, Justice, Cintanami and to name a few.. I wish that Champlain could go after them than go after all those women's oriented stores.

On a sidenote I am stoked to see retailers like Bass Pro Shops and Cabella's coming to Moncton I think with this addition it will bring a whole new dynamic in the Moncton retail market place. And I hope to see the day that Mapleton Power center is 100% leased but that will not come anytime soon.

Has anyone heard anything IF and when Ashley furniture will start building their store in their spot in Mapleton center next to Bed Bath and Beyond? And also VEDIROC sux at developing stuff for Moncton.

Assuming these folks know what they are talking about and are not just making assumptions, the "New" retail building that they specifically refer to rules out BPS taking over Costco.
I hope they choose (or have chosen) the Elmwood site. I could walk there from my house.

American hunting and fishing retailer will open in 2015 on Portico Court, off Mapleton Road

MONCTON, N.B. – Moncton City Council has approved the newly-named Portico Court which will become home for a giant U.S.-based outdoors retailer.

Cordova Realty is developing the new street near the corner of Mapleton Road and the Trans Canada Highway where a 50,000-square foot Cabela’s store will open in 2015.

Ward One Councillor Shawn Crossman says (being) adjacent to Mapleton Park, the spot will be a great fit for the company.

“From here on out, what citizens will see is a building that will really incorporate nature in that spot and it will become a destination,” notes Crossman.

The hunting and fishing retailer plans to hire about 140 full and part-time employees.

Besides a new Cabela’s store, Portico Court will also have room for at least three other businesses.

Personal note - so it would appear that Cabela's is a definite go, and will open in 2015. There is still a little suspense around the Bass Pro Shops announcement, but hopefully we will have more definite pronouncements regarding the BPS in the next few months.......

Why are people still pining for a new Bay location? We already had one in the city and it never did that great (although I guess it did better than some other locations), and the whole chain is on the verge of going 🞵🞵🞵🞵 up.

Replacing Sears with a new Bay would be the stupid move of the century.

I have been told by a very reliable source that Costco is not selling their building as they have invested a lot of money building those huge walk-in coolers. Whether they decide to build a stand alone gas bar would be totally doable but forget them selling their building.

If Costco isn't moving, and if Day & Ross does decamp for Berry Mills Road, would Bass Pro Shops then consider moving into the Day & Ross site?

It would be a desireable property on Mapleton Road, immediately adjacent to the TCH and right across the street from Cabela's.

There is a certain logic to locating immediately adjacent to your competitors.......

Regarding the gas bar, what about on the corner of Frampton and Mapleton. That literally right behind Costco.

It might be right behind Costco, but it is down the hill and most definitely off-site. It is also way too small a lot for a Costco gas bar.

Besides, Cordova Realty has plans for this lot. At some point, they would like to see a small building with a drive thru built here:

I would see possibly a second cup or even IF Dunkin Donuts or Even Krispy Kreme there.

Dunkin Dounuts is dead in Canada lol. They used to have 10X as many locations as Timmies in Quebec and now they have like 100 locations lol.

- Dunkin Donuts in Canada has essentially been slain by the beast that is Timmies.
- Krispy Kreme was in agressive expansion mode about 4-5 years ago, but they were too ambitious and have been retrenching ever since.

The most likely candidate for a tenant would be (in my opinion) Second Cup. Their existing north end location is very busy, and they are actively looking for new franchisees in the metro area. A less likely possibility would be another Starbucks. What makes me hesitant here is that they have opened two new north end locations in the last year and I don't know if they would like to open a third new one in the same neighbourhood so quickly......

I wouldn't be that surprised if it was a McDonalds even especially with the closure of there drivethru in Walmart for the Walmart Superstore Expansion.

That's what I originally thought, but most McDonalds are no that small either. Second cup is my guess. Maybe one of the lots next to Moxies could be McDonalds.
