Montreal is amazing on foot. That's all that matters. When it comes to streetscape, not only does it beat Calgary, but also beats Toronto. Any person who has spent time here will agree with me. Montreal is truly on a whole different level with it's unique urban vibe, soul, character, variety of architecture, overall setup, feel, nightlife, etc. It may underwhelm with the number of big tall buildings, but when I visit a city I care way more about how much fun I'm going to have. And let's put it this way... If I was making a non biased statement being a tourist from another country and I was given a chance to spend 5 days in any Canadian city (no car, just walking/biking/public transit) I would in no way go to any other place other than Montreal. Toronto would be 2nd, Vancouver 3rd. But Montreal takes the cake, there is just SO much to see and do without needing a car, or to even leave the city.
