Buckhead: New luxury apartments break ground on Howell Mill Road

"Crescent Communities broke ground today on Crescent Howell Mill, a $47 million, 256-unit luxury apartment community between Buckhead and Midtown. The development is expected to open spring 2015 and will be managed by Greystar, a national property management group with offices in Atlanta.

Crescent Howell Mill will be built on 2.2 acres adjacent to future restaurant and retail development on Howell Mill Road at the intersection of Collier Road.

The community will be part of an eight-acre mixed-use site with the first phase, developed by the land seller, Healey Weatherholtz Properties, including 11,000 square feet of stand-alone retail and restaurant space.

Crescent’s five-story building will feature a state-of-the-art athletic club, saltwater resort-style pool with sun deck, outdoor kitchen with grilling stations, fire pit social deck and dog walk park. The studios, one- and two-bedroom units’ interiors will feature details including granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and designer light fixtures. On the exterior, the building architecture will resemble an old textile mill, complementing the design of the mixed-use community."

Ok so no matter my thoughts on the move, these renders and the site plan do look pretty nice, and for how far out of the city it is, it is decidedly at least somewhat urban. I don't know how much this could change development patterns immediately adjecent to the site, because of the current wide busy roads, etc, but we could hope.

If the Braves are really truly opting to move to this new stadium, a great reuse of Turner Field would be to repurpose it to host a Major League Soccer team, which I know Atlanta is expected to receive in the next few years.

lol @ showing trees and development in the rendering, and then swapping it out for blocks of parking in the site plan.

I'd honestly rather see MLS at the new Falcons stadium. It would give it more purpose than just 8 games a year, and the two teams could take advantage of shared parking/infrastructure without having to ruin another neighborhood by creating a sea of parking lots. Plus you would have the benefit of direct access to Marta.

I just wish the Braves could have moved to the old site of the Ga Dome. It would have been great to have the stadiums all clustered together like they have it in Philly. The area would then have life all year long between the Hawks, Braves, Falcons, and future MLS teams.

I totally agree with the first half of your statement. But what the Braves plan on doing with the new stadium is quite a amazing and pretty impressive. It would become a destination attraction as far as year round festivities, but at the end of the day, IMO most areas of Atlanta is a destination attraction. As much as I LOVE the Highlands to eat out at night, I'm still having to drive over there and the braves location is no more than an extra 5 or 10 mins.

If the rendering of the ballpark itself reflects actual design criteria, then I really am excited to see the simple screen like roof overhang. Very simple and reflects the pastoral feeling I believe is being persued overall. Especially like the woodland setting around the ballpark. Now, the Braves can grow and harvest their own bats.

Sorry to disappoint you Alfred, but there probably aren't many ash trees in those woods and they take a long time to grow. Georgia pine, as they say, don't work to well as a bat.

It actually does look pretty cool. Wish this could have happened at the old location.

The ridiculous part is that it was happening north of Turner field. A TAD had been created, RFQs and RFPs had been sent out and returned, etc. etc. The problem was the Brave's got greedy and wanted the city to effectively give them the stadium and at the same time pay $10 million a year for the foreseeable future. On top of that they were demanding to be on both sides of the development table and asking that the amount and types of retail in any development be limited so as not to compete with their offerings.

I must admit, the renderings for the new Braves stadium and surrounding grounds look fabulous! They give a sense of place and are very inviting.

Masterpiece set for ‘symphony center’ site -- 3 skyscrapers

A Manhattan developer wants to build one of Atlanta’s tallest skyscrapers.
A team that includes New York-based Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp. and international design firm Arquitectonica is planning a nearly 2 million-square-foot development for Midtown’s long-vacant “symphony center” site at 98 14th Street.

Are they going to build all three at one time, or just build 1 and they think about the other 2??

Edit: It's kind of interesting how the vast majority of development is designated for residential, right in the commercial heart of Midtown. Not that I'm complaining... Also just noticed that the "park" parcel north of One Atlantic Center is designated for "future development."

Much of their work looks like skyline-defining design. This is fantastic news. Atlanta is WHITE HOT!
