What does Assians creed have to do with Montreal?

I thought it was a pirate game in the Caribbean from 400 years ago...

The plot in every assassin's creed is a present day male who has access to a machine named the anymus, which strands his DNA and allows him to see the memories of his ancestors. Therefore the game is set in two places, the past and the present. In Assassin's Creed IV, Black Flag, the present day plot is set in Montréal.
