I'm a leftie elite. At least I strive to be one.

Why would anyone want to be anything else? unless maybe a righty elite. If there is such a thing, I suppose.

the right elite and the populist right are growing apart; the right "elite" is almost a sort of an underground thing right now.

nice old editions of spengler and even evola, strange-looking visa cards from la roche.

unpopular opinions.

In Ontario, municipalities are just a local extension of the provincial government. The Ontario government could dissolve Toronto and govern it directly if they wanted to. That's how they created the city in the first place. If Metro Vancouver was in Ontario, it would be composed of no more than 5 municipalities. It's almost a wonder that the cities in York and Durham haven't been amalgamated into larger cities yet. Probably because there is regional government there.

Don't confuse our form of local government with democracy, because it definitely isn't. Ask anyone who has had to deal with MPAC or the OMB.

Pretty good detective work on some of Ford's associates:

I have to confess, and I know quite a few others of you share my guilt, but I kind of hope that Ford gets re-elected, even if (especially because) he is a circus clown whose values are diametrically opposed to mine.

He thinks Ford is finished. Could be, but nothing for the leftie elites to be proud of though.
Poor bitter Rex. He was probably angling for a Senate seat by being the Cons biggest supporter on the CBC but now Wallin and Duffy have made sure another journo will never be appointed,

Um, no. Why would you want that if you care about the city and its future, assuming you do? I don't find this whole debacle amusing at all.

not at all? because it has some universally comedic elements. it's a big red fat guy who lies a lot and misbehaves. if it was a cartoon and he were a comically dishonest pig who got himself into all sorts of barnyard misunderstandings, it would be a classic.

I don't like Ford at all but I'm thoroughly amused. Perhaps that's because he has no real power.

May I assume Doug Ford declared a conflict of interest and was the absent councillor?
