I don't see yinzer as anything positive. That doesn't mean everyone who speaks with accent is one. I to paraphrase a famous court quote, I know it when I see it.

This is my one and final warning here:

All of you, cut the crap already!

What the hell is going on around here, lately? Can we please keep this discussion thread related to development? Is that too much to ask? Every needs to cut the "yinzers are this. No, yinzers are really that! You're bigoted! No, you're bigoted!" garbage as of NOW.

Thank you.

Hold on, there are similar versions of this in other regions. We can't ignore it. Yes, it is a digression from development, but let's not get so rigid that conversations aren't also organic in nature.

Every city has their own version of yinzer. I do happen to think Pittsburgh's version can be particularly repulsive... but like all of these species... the yinzer is a product of his environment. Isolation coupled with economic depression breeds ignorance, suspicion, and blind contempt. Pittsburgh has always had the isolation, but the economic depression thing is a relatively recent component. We must remember, the yinzer, as we know it today (meaning the very negative connotation), was not always a notable part of urban Pittsburgh.

photolith: friendly advice... get the hell out of Millvale, and your life will be better.

PBT has an update on Chevron's planned offices in Moon:

Quote:
The plan calls for a Technological Excellence Center, including a laboratory, totaling 44,250 square feet of space in a one-story building that would employ about 36 people and offer parking, sidewalks and other amenities and infrastructure on a 20-acre portion of the larger plan.

A second phase of the development, according to Chevron’s master plan, “is anticipated to be a regional headquarters campus” with a 374,000-square-foot multi-story office building, a 123,000-square-foot commons building, a 414,000-square-foot parking garage for 1,200 cars and a 24,000-square-foot central plant.

Agreed on both counts.

Definitely a larger presence than any other major energy company in the region, no doubt about it!

A yinzer can share many traits to Arkansas trailer trash and may or may not have a confederate flag plastered over the back window of their trucks. They also have lots of trashy tattoos and most likely have had one kid by the age of 17. They also wish they lived in Florida or South Carolina, instead of pittsburgh. When you say you went to the north side they think you're lucky to have not gotten shot. They also still think you're risking your life for walking around east liberty. They don't know much about the region or their own city beyond their own neighborhood. If they have ever taken a vacation it is either to Panama City, Florida; or gambling in Jersey. Most also think making over 13 dollars an hour is doing well.
How long have you been in "Pittsburgh" again? First of all, Millvale, Etna and Sharpsburg are not Pittsburgh, and are very severly depressed, underprivelegd and undereducated communities so it is not too shocking to see ignorance and similar effects of poverty there. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh and have never been to any of those places, (not by specific choice, just never had any reason to). So making statements that seem to lump most white, native Pittsburghers into a group based on your experiences in poverty stricken ex-steel towns on the periphery of the city is a bit of a stretch. If you are disgusted by living amongst the lower class white people then maybe you should actually move into the city and into a neighborhood that lives up to your standards. Also, there is not a city on earth that is free from the "type" of people that you are describing, especially in the United States. "Local" new yorkers/new jerseyians are often just as abbrasive, ignorant, rude, territorial and bigoted as any yinzer, but they have actually been exposed to much more by living in NYC, which makes it even worse IMO. Sports are just as rabid in cities like Philly,DC and Chicago (sometimes violently), and Kenny Chesney had not one but TWO shows back to back this year at Foxborough! Imagine the audacity that pop country music has a larger audience in New England!!!

You obviously don't understand the history of pittsburgh very well with you're whole "northside/East Liberty" comments. For most of these peoples lives, both of those neighborhoods had been deteriorating and severly blighted. Pittsburgh has difficult terrain with a subpar transportation network, which severly limited(s) the connectiveness of the city and its people. While neighborhoods are changing significantly around Pittsburgh, its still very very new and will take time for the new "realities" to become apparent to those that have not been exposed to it and have grown up with a certain concept of Pittsburghs make-up. Your "out of town" perceptions cannot be equally compared to those who grew up in Pittsburgh because you bring no prior history, knowledge or bias with you. The past few posts that you have made have been insanely close minded, incorrect, uninformed and offensive (and thats not just being politically correct). I know this conversation is getting old and annoying, but felt the need to respond.

This now the FINAL post on this topic. Only reason I'm letting this one slide is because PghSH22 likely didn't see my comment requesting an end to all of this crap.

As of now, this topic is now over and done with. This garbage is tearing the Pittsburgh forum group apart and I'm sick and freaking tired of it.

Bakery Square 2.0 has revamped their website. Tons of new renders and plans of Living1, the building currently underconstruction.

some of the better ones:

This is only temporary development, but the village-style holiday market in Market Square is going to be greatly expanded this year:

http://www.downtownpittsburgh.com/news/p...as-holiday-market-for-its-sophomore-year

It was already pretty cool last year (its first), and this has the makings of a significant new holiday tradition for the region.

New Planning board presentation is up.

http://apps.pittsburghpa.gov/dcp/schedule31/presentation-31-277.pdf

Includes plans for:

-Hot Metal Flats in the South Side works (the design is ok but I'm not a huge fan, it is very insular in design and sets a president of lots of ground level parking)

-350 Oliver St, I believe the old Saks building (sucks that it is just a parking garage, but it has what appears to be 2 floors of active use, a pretty bold architectural style, and it contains space for a core for a future skyscraper to be built on top of the garage)

-Homewood Suires on Smallman (looks like it will be very contextual, but again why are we using the ground floor for parking?)

EDIT: it is the Sacks building, not Neiman Marcus. duh.

I did see your post, but didnt realized that you were the dictator of postings on here, my bad. Interesting when you applaud people that challenge when idiots post on newpaper websites about not wanting to live among low income people in mixed housing units, but then seem to not mind when someone does pretty much the exact same thing on here, but in a much broader sense - sorry if I see absolutely no difference in attitude there. And this isn't just a one off, comments like this about broadly "yinzers" have been flowing freely recently to the point that its beginning to sound extremely elitist and offensive.

The new building at BKSQ 2.0 is pretty impressive from Penn Avenue at this point.

It also contains plans for the Saks site, but it is just a parking garage with ground floor retail. it is indicated on one of the renderings that the residential portion will be added in a second phase. On the plus side, it is probably one of the more attractive parking structures I have seen in a while

The hotel in the strip looks great to me!

I'm not a dictator of anything. But I am a moderator here on SSP and I want to keep these threads from going off the rails into a morass of insults, attacks and stupidity. That's my point, PghSH22.

Newspaper comment boards I have absolutely no control over. SSP, I at least have a small amount of influence over. I intend on using that little bit of influence to keep this thread at least roughly on the topic of Pittsburgh developments and proposals.

Speaking of developments, it looks like Bakery Square II is going to be quite the nice project overall! I like the Homewood Suites project on Smallman as well!

I agree. I think the Hotel looks great, I really just wish it had a more active first floor. Just one or two store fronts instead of the back of parking spaces along smallman would do wonders when this area is completely built up.

Supposedly Peduto is pushing them to make the second phase of apartments for the Saks site a reality. I personally consider that one of the big early litmus tests for his administration.

I pretty much hate the design of the parking for the Hot Metal Flats project.

I'm actually a little meh on the Homewood Suites design, but it is nonetheless a great project for the Strip.

You can see more details about the team on the Peduto transition website. Pretty impressive set of Résumés.
