A full size field barely fits on that block (in either a n-s or e-w orientation) let alone a full stadium. Has there been any intimation of a stadium using adjacent blocks?

I read an article about all the troubles they have been having with unions being crummy to them so I get why it's taken a while. But, why are they doing such a hodgepodge job with it? I can see it from my window and it looks like not one floor is complete and random windows are missing.

Well I live just across the vine st expressway and the building is visible from my house. As each day passes more and more lights are on in the inside, and a quick look through the windows shows the inside basically finished. I think they want to finish the building while giving the appearance that much more work is to be done. This takes any edge away from the unions, as any completion horizon is ambiguous. This would be a good strategy, considering the unions' attempt at sabotage.

The importance of the well-being of this project cannot be overstated. It sends a message to the unions and developers alike: center city can survive without closed-shop projects. Remember that building on the main line in the 70's that was firebombed - its success ruined the unions' foothold in the burbs from that point on.

I will bet my bottom dollar that half of the building is already signed and leased. I think they want to finish with the majority of units leased.

Just get rid of the Thompson right away and buy out the block with the McDonalds gas station and few other buildings as well. Should be plenty of space. Either way, whatever plans Temple does have, is going to face significant NIMBY opposition from the Yorktown residents.

Another U.K. tech company to open a branch in Philly and grow here

Who was the one saying this trade mission to the U.K. was a waste of time?

For the second day in a row, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter — who is in the middle of a trade mission to the United Kingdom and Israel— said that a U.K. company would be adding jobs to the Philadelphia region.

On Wednesday, city officials said GuardianMPS will be establishing its U.S. headquarters in Philadelphia. The company creates mobile phone software for social workers and is planning to open its office here in early 2014. GuardianMPS will start with around 10 employees, with plans to grow to 30 employees over the next three years. The release did not say where the company would be located in Philadelphia.

This comes a day after the Mark Group, an energy efficiency service provider which opened its U.S. headquarters at the Navy Yard in 2010, announced that it would be adding 30 jobs to its existing 155 here in the next 18 months.

Are they jumping the gun and adding the address? Or do they already have employees here, are they adding 10 more and plan to add 30 more in the next three years? Or do they currently have 10 employees and plan to add 30 more. Either way, a new relatively small company based in Center City and planning to grow here.

For front st I agree it should have retail. I am not inclined to agree re south st. This is part of the broader Naval Square project, and retail doesn't seem to fit into the trade dress.

Actually I think it should be the opposite. No retail on Front street... no point. There should be retail on South Street though.

UBS, the Swiss global financial services company, said Wednesday that it has opened a new private wealth management office dedicated to serving the firm’s ultra-high net worth clients. An initial group of eight wealth advisors and related service personnel, will offer advisory, brokerage, trust and private banking services to ultra-high net worth clients. UBS said its office will be located at the Mellon Bank Center at 1735 Market St. on the 35th Floor. The new private wealth management office is being led by David Sirianni. UBS has been servicing wealth management clients out of offices in Philadelphia, Conshohocken and Newtown but the new group will cater to a different demographic. “UBS is building on its long history in the Philadelphia area by adding office space and staff to better serve clients in the Philadelphia community,” said John Mathews, head of Private Wealth Management. “We view Philadelphia as a key wealth market with tremendous opportunity to provide meaningful investment advice leveraging UBS’s global depth and reach.” UBS is the world’s largest wealth manager with assets of $1.9 trillion under management, serving a discerning global client base.

Temple is not currently considering this location for the stadium. The main location under consideration for a future stadium is at 15th and Norris.

There are a couple of priorities that the William Penn High space could be used for. Temple wants to relocate the soccer and baseball fields from the Ambler campus to main campus. And if a stadium is built at 15th and Norris then the track and field hockey fields will need to be relocated. Students have also been begging for a “Penn Park” styled space that could be shared with the community. William Penn High creates an opportunity for that.

From Temple’s standpoint, this is a smart move. They quiet the NIMBY opposition for the stadium by offering up a giant park to be shared with Yorktown.
