Buckhead Atlanta webcam

OliverMcmillan now has installed a construction camera across Peachtree Road that allows Buckhead folk to keep their own tabs on progress at the site daily and in real time.

Initial talks are underway to reopen Atlanta Waterworks

Atlanta Waterworks, the Westside greenspace that closed prior to the 1996 Olympics, could once again become a vibrant public park.Atlanta City Councilwoman Yolanda Adrean is hoping to reopen the park that's adjacent to Howell Mill Road and 17th Street.

The 204-acre Westside Waterworks complex once allowed people to gather on the greenspace surrounding the reservoir bordered by Howell Mill Road, 17th Street and Northside Drive. According to some sources, a fence was erected for security reasons at the suggestion of federal officials prior to the 1996 Olympics.

Since then, the reservoir, which offers breathtaking views of the city skyline and Buckhead, has been cordoned off. The move, while necessary to protect from sabotage or contamination, has prevented nearby residents and businesses from enjoying what could be majestic greenspace in a part of town that's lacking such amenities.

i'm going to make my official guess and say that it's either directly north of viewpoint, next to bulldogs, or directly south of viewpoint. so 6th or 7th streets.

that's not a parking lot— the southeast corner, however, is— albeit a pretty narrow one.

Agreed. Although unless the north site included Bulldogs and the small paylot next door my preference would be for the south site. I'd like to see the property value of those two lots along Peachtree rise enough so they'd sell first.

its really capping the connector but i wish we just had a land feature like a mountain or a river or a lake not to big though but for a good size to reflect on the skyline!!!

So what do you guys thinking about this?

my response would be, i was excited when i first saw the pictures, and then i learned that GDOT and the federal DOT wouldn't be happy with trees directly next to the interstate, something about the possibility of a tree falling over and blocking traffic. i feel it's essentially a good idea, but i think what we need to be working on is a long-term plan to bury the connector from buckhead all the way down to about the lakewood freeway, and a similar plan for I-20, to bury it before the curve on the east side and come up at about adamsville.

this of course, is a big fucking deal. and i'm not talking about next year or even in the next 10 years, but it will eventually have to be done within the next 30 years or so for both traffic control, pedestrian safety, and to link the four quadrants of the city back together. until then, it might be just a waste of money to try and accomplish anything really huge if it's going to have to be mowed down anyway— i'm particularly referring to the peachtree bridges that go over the connector.

unless the bridges actually *need* to be replaced because they're reaching the end of their usable lives, it seems like a waste of money for all the LEDs and fancy signs and whatnot— look at the pedestrian experience in the renderings above— it looks about the same or worse than it does now for individuals on the street. there's no traffic pattern changes or any attempt to disguise the connector from the street above. it basically is a very expensive billboard for people coming in on the connector.

what i would *really* like to see is the people at living walls take a go at all of the bare concrete and the underside of the bridges around the downtown connector. there is so much blank space, it's just a canvas waiting to happen. and it would be a relatively cheap solution. it would make the connector a driving art experience unlike anywhere else in the country.

I completely agree, bryantm3. Burry or bust. Living walls would be a cool and realistic option for the time being.

But going to start building this stuff next year (2014) i was surprise because i was thinking about presenting a idea like to this to the mayor but someone already has it. But I Agree with you 75% because on certain circumstances every one knows Atlanta is a (WORLD CLASS CITY) and we need to get more attractive and more up to point (more modern) But the are putting up things on bridges like bike lanes, pedestrian things your'e talking about. But i think it would make he connector a driving art experience unlike anywhere else in the country. But i heard this that before the connector was their it was going to be like a (SIENE) SOMETHING LIKE PARIS and was going to be the connector near by. but i thought that would have been a better idea because if we had a siene we could of have a nice river front in atlanta.

But what you said about burrying the connector from buckhead all the way down to about the lakewood freeway, and a similar plan for I-20, to bury it before the curve on the east side and come up at about adamsville. I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!! And also i think it wont be a waste of money to try and accomplish anything really huge if it's going to have to be mowed down because i think they not going to have big huge trees i think they might have light standard neighborhood landscaping but i think its a good idea to me... But hopefully we have like 6-15 major skyscraper construction (50-75+ story skyscraper) because we do need to fill it the gaps through the skyscraper and make the city look full because we are in alot of competition with other cities so we need to make this city great as possible because if we dont we probaly be somewhere off the map...

The 2 Peachtree bridges 'makeovers' are less about pedestrian experience and more about cache' in the famous Peachtree name (think: Broadway). It was designed to give the passing motorists a sense of 'entering' the Emerald City.

I would love that lot to get developed! The weird thing I've noticed along the property line there and several property lines along the Edgewood corridor: tons of mature American Basswood trees (Tilia americana) not sure if they were planted as property-line trees or just sprung up as volunteers but they are *all over* the place. I'm sure most people think they're trash trees but they really do have nice fall flowers.

Those tree maps make me laugh. I have just about every tree in my yard that you're not supposed to grow here. Atlanta is different due to elevation. On the subject of Buckhead Atlanta, does anyone know what the 2 tall buildings are in that pic, they have the cranes really jacked up????

Are these White Basswood trees? They are native to this area:

Midtown Musings

I wish someone would just spill the beans on where the new residential tower in Midtown is going to be built! The suspense is killing me!

In other Midtown related news, we watched the tower crane finally come down this weekend at Skyhouse South Midtown. Looks like they are on target to be open by the start of 2014.

At the same time the tower crane was coming down, crews were erecting scaffolding for the Peachtree Street retail facade upgrade at ViewPoint. According to the permits on the window, the work is scheduled to be complete by January 2014... at which time I believe Starbucks will temporarily relocate for the construction of the new 10 story condo - 7th Midtown.

Rumor is that a new grocery store (e.g. Sprouts, Fresh Market, Whole Foods) will be moving in to anchor the ViewPoint retail space, which would be amazing for those of us who live nearby.
