^^^ If Edmonton builds a tower this tall then Vancouver must eliminate all height limits downtown!!
That line of reasoning isn't sound. Calgary already has several buildings taller than Vancouver and Montreal. Edmonton building a tower taller has no bearing on any other city, plus Vancouver's view cone legislation serves its purpose. Part of Vancouver's appeal is the amazing view of the surrounding mountains in conjunction with the stunning skyline. Edmonton could beat all three with this proposal, if it comes to fruition.

80 Bloor would be good mid block infill if it had the height of mid block infill. Unfortunately, it doesn't. The blank walls and the shape are unattractive for such a dominating structure. Redesign - yes.
Beautiful tower Edmonton! It'll probably get downsized but still very nice and VERY TALL!!! I'd love to see it get built as is and maybe Calgary wouldn't be so inclined to keep building twins, triplets or whatever. That building would look great along 10th Ave either on Center or First St.
80 Bloor is such a disappointment. They actually had an interesting design for once, then inexplicably rotated it 90 degrees to give yet another main facade of banal, rectangular balconies. Unacceptable. The old render was 1000x better.

How does simply rotating the design suddenly make it so much worse?
Because the side with the curtainwall glass facing the main street makes it look like much more professional of a building, and much more clean, instead of aA condo number 42.
You can't honestly look at those renderings with a straight face and say that the balcony side will look as crisp and good on Bloor as the curtainwall side would.
