I'm by no means a fan of Taco Bell.... just speaking about the prospect of it coming back to SJ.

St. John's will get its Taco Bell soon enough. I remember there being a KFC/Taco Bell restaurant in Sydney NS when I was a kid, wasn't really a fan of it. That was mid 90s, I found it strange that it never crossed the strait to Newfoundland aside from that one in the theatre in St. John's.

The company that bought up the KFC franchises is FMI, they're based out of New Brunswick and do a lot of business with the YUM! Group which owns KFC, Taco Bell and numerous others. They've already built a couple of new buildings for their KFC's but none of them are shared buildings.

I would say once the new Cineplex gets built on Torbay and Hebron Drive, there will be more fast food restaurants popping up around that. That is probably the best location right now for a new KFC I would say. Recently an ad for a new office building being proposed next Harvey's Restaurant showed a Milestones Restaurant in the schematic drawing. Time will tell though if that is true or not.

I would LOVE to see a Pete's Frutique open in St. John's!

They should definitely consider the expansion!

Would be a great addition. I grew up very close to where Pete's vineyard is now, and went to school with his daughter. Aside from the Halifax location, we now have a small "Pete's" in my home town, and man his produce is good.

His vineyard is fantastic as well, I try to swing by and grab a bottle every time I'm home. Unfortunately I don't visit nearly enough any more.

The issue with St. John's though, I would think, would be transporting the produce.

I'm disappointed the deal with PF Chang's fell through.. We would have been their first location east of Toronto, I believe, and they would have done very well here. I've had Jack Astors once in Halifax and it seemed little more than a glorified Montana's. I'll give it a try, and I'm sure it will do great business, I just feel there could have been a better use of the restaurant space. But I won't knock it till I've tried it!

Just charge more money. The money is here, I believe it would do well, people love places like Rocket, and it is very expensive.

Long Dicks just announced on his Facebook that they will be closing. It’s a real shame. It’s by FAR the best hot dog available in the city (and maybe the best I've ever had anywhere). I was also really hoping that this would be the beginning of a food truck trend here (like most cities in North America experienced years ago). Too bad.

It would be nice of these street vendors offered something other than fries or sausages. Check out the show "Eat Street" on the Food Network to see the variety in other cities.

Yeah, I’ve seen it! It’s incredible how much quality food you can buy from food trucks in other cities. I spent some time in Vancouver this summer and found the food truck scene there amazing. You can even get an app that tells you where they are at that time.

I think Long —’s problem was probably that he still appeared too close to the ‘traditional’ trucks like Ziggys in terms of what he offered. So he probably wasn’t able to attract a crowd other than drunks at 4am. But it really was miles and miles ahead of the hot dog carts that sell street meat. The city seems to have made it very difficult for him too.

Also charging $8/ea. was ridiculous, way too expensive for what you got. Same thing you could get at costco for $1.50.

I wouldnt say a costco hotdog is "the same thing" as the sausages this guy was selling. Also, he was a one-off truck vendor. Can't really compare that to a multi-national corporation like costco who generate billions of dollars.

I know that, but I wold have understood maybe $5-6/max for each sausage...but $8/ea. was pretty nuts. I'm sure he would have sold more at a lower price.

I have the app for Calgary trucks and it's a blast running around downtown after your favourite trucks.

New restaurants since March

Anybody have any updates on new restaurants in YYT for those of us heading back to NL for Christmas. Taking wife to Mallard Cottage one night - looking forward to it. Will Legros & Motti will be open soon or is that happening closer to the Jack Astor's opening in the spring?
