Waldorf would be sweet. I doubt it would be that though, unfortunately If the branding is changed, hopefully it would be accompanied by a complete restoration of the exterior and maybe a 5 floor modern addition on top, with a new grand ballroom as the 21st floor (like the current one on the 15th floor, but larger, more functional, and modern).

Not likely. Out of the 17,000 rooms InnVest owns across Canada, only 850 are under a Hilton brand and most of those were recent acquisitions from Hilton.

Palliser as a Fairmont property averaged $231 per night in 2012. A decent rate but not spectacular for that kind of building and they do not disclose the vacancy rate in their annual report.

It might end up a Delta as they have 11 Delta branded properties, some branded after taking ownership, and they tend to be their larger properties. The own the Calgary Airport Delta but not the one downtown.

I still think the easiest thing for them to do is independently brand it (they do that too) and contract management out to Choice. Good Choice staff then have someplace to be promoted to instead of going to a competitor.

You think it's more likely that the premier luxury hotel of the entire prairie provinces would be converted into a Quality Inn rather than to another luxury brand similar to what it currently is/has been for a century? InnVest obviously sees the value in having it managed by a luxury brand now, why wouldn't they in the future?

Not that I think this one will be 525 feet ...
3 m slab to slab + 6 m retail floors + mechanical and crown. I was expecting a sculptural form and not a decorated box. This will likely be in the 190s having a tough time reaching 200 metres.

Come on, there are three Fairmonts in walking distance of each other in Vancouver. Calgary can handle one more.

Exactly

In other news, looks like Husky Oil in Calgary is looking for over 1 million square feet of new office space in the downtown core. This could end up coming to light as the rumoured new tallest. Three new tallests + another one(Telus Sky) taller than our tallest before the boom (Suncor) would be incredible.

The official groundbreaking for Brookfield Place is this today.

Sure. But Westmount, owner of Fairmont Hotel Vancouver and a number of other Fairmont hotels, isn't InnVest.

I didn't say it couldn't. I said the owner would not be interested in that.

Good guess. Approximately 188.9 metres.

The total height was not marked, I had to add up all the floor heights.

There are also four levels of parking reaching 13.975m (45 feet 10 inches) below ground level, with the elevator pit extending a further 3.66m (12 feet) further down.

Here is the Yonge Street elevation of the base of the tower (the grey shading indicates restoration area):

And the plan view:

These heritage podiums look a bit silly on these highrises.

Vancouver has a much higher tourist count, a port with cruise ships and a larger higher end visitor type...

Hmm, then I wonder who conjured up the absurd 160m that I posted.

I could see this one popping over 200 meters with a 5 to 10 floor height increase, and I don't think that would be unreasonable, considering Minto is planning their 240 meter tower just a stone throw away, and of course, Holts, and One Bloor and Four Seasons are all (or going to be) in the neighbourhood.

When was the last time you saw a tower proposal gain height?
