St-Hubert has closed down in both Saint John AND Rothesay, makes me wonder if it would have done any better had it been a sit down type restaurant and not an express.

The KFC location in KV has closed its doors permanently after over 20 years of service. My best guess to the reason is that the 1980s interior/exterior would have cost to much to upgrade. Maybe it would actually cost them less to build a standalone restaurant, it was always busy when I drove by so it doesn't seem that unlikely.

We lost two chicken locations in the last month, some people aren't going to be happy.

I just want to chime in on the Paramount demolition, I was one of the people who donated to keep it alive, I wore the button and everything. I didn't really agree with the new design but the last thing I wanted was to see another building demolished in the uptown. But I have to agree with the other poster on here that the front of the building was a gigantic eyesore and for that reason I am glad they at least did something to it.

A great looking new store. A few observations though, the exit onto McAllister will still be an issue and the parking lot is slopped down from street level. I live close by in Forest Hills and although I do not gas up at Petro Canada I will check out the convenience part of the business.

I just heard on the news that the old post office on Prince William was sold! Bought by a developer out west and they will be turning it into condos.

I hope they'll also construct a high-rise on the site. I remember reading in the paper that there was a drawing of such a thing years ago. I'm hoping, but I'm not going put my hopes up to high only to see them trashed like a lot of other projects such as the old 23-story Howard-Johnson's as part of the so-called super-block, or the 14-story Metro Centre, the 16-story Regional Hospital with 14-story medical residence on Waterloo, or the three Brentwood Towers. Good grief, I gone and depressed myself again!

Very good news! Shows that there's still a great deal of confidence in the adaptive reuse market Uptown in spite of continued slowness in other segments and sub-areas of the local real estate market. I hope commercial uses will remain for the ground floors.

In addition to this one, renovations are well underway at the Hayward and Warwick buildings, and condo conversion plans are in the works for Gothic Arches.

The Hawyard and Warwick project has been well publicized and is well underway. This will be a really fantastic addition to the uptown.

The Old Post Office Building, or "Pillars" as some folks refer to it was just just sold this week. As others mentioned it has been purchased( for seven figures) by developers from Western Canada who have already indicated their intent is to convert the upper floors to condos. This is fantastic news!! Could easily lead to another $3-4 Million in uptown investment. I think we will continue to see this happening as the pipeline becomes closer and Irvings plans become more clear.

I noticed last week the for sale sign was removed from the old city hall building on corner or Prince a William and Princess - does anyone know if it was purchased?

All of those proposals go back, like 30 years! Yes, in other words I'm as old a them hills. The 16-floor General Hospital expansion was to be on the old site of the Nursing School across from the old General Hospital, but a new government decided to move it to the University in hopes of attracting a future medical school. I preferred the high-rise version. The 14-floor medical residence was going to be built were the old Bank of Nova Scotia originally was located on Waterloo. It was going to be built by private investors whom I can't recall.

As for the others, well it's a long story, but the 14-floor Mercantile Centre was going to be built because of developments planned for Lorneville which included a giant Continental Oil Refinery! The 23-floor Howard Johnson, a part of the super block, included a 16-story office tower. The Hotel would have stood where the Canada Aquatic Center is now, and the office tower next to City Hall. The Super Block was going to be built by a Moncton business man, John Ritchie, but he went bankrupt. They actually had the furniture for the hotel purchased!

But I won't go on, because, frankly, it rather depresses me!

They will not be building on this site. The building has been upgraded to a point that it is now up to date.
New owners will be making condos on the upper floors.

You are speaking of two different buildings. "Pillars" is the old bank of Newbrunswick not the post office. This was not sold this past week.
The old post office (Six High Club) was sold. This is next door.

The pipeline has many hurdles to over come. Announcement to come late 2014.
